Hey everyone,

It's been a while, but I've made my return to SDN just in time for UA decisions coming up in a few days. I just wanted to set up this thread for everyone applying. Best of luck to everyone, our chances look pretty good! I will keep everyone posted if anything comes up.

Me too...waiting anxiously

Just wanted to update everyone: my status page has changed. It used to say "Awaiting close of interview process and admissions committee decision." Now, it's gone and all I see are my LOR's/transcripts. Hope this is a good sign!

I noticed the same change on my page...I think we will be finding out something shortly. I read last years post and someone else noticed the same change before they got an acceptance notice the next day. I know I am speculating a bit here, but I have been checking the site like 3X/day and I am dying to find out my status

No changes on my status page. According to last year those got accepted from u of a noticed a change on their status page and the very next day they found out they got accepted....

I'm going to be applying next year. If anyone who gets in would like to post their stats that'd be swell 🙂

I'm getting pretty antsy here guys, but I hope this is going to lead to good things! Everyone, best of luck and hopefully we will be hearing great news tomorrow/soon!

i guess my status is denied or hopefully alternate list.....good luck

Mine didn't change either.... Are any of you out of state? I am from TX by the way.

My status did not change but I am from Arizona so I dont know if that really matters. I know U of A update everyone infos at the same time it doesnt matter wether youre out of state or instate

I checked my status yesterday and was missing the status part too.

I was hoping it would have something this morning, but no luck yet.

I am also out of state. So I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Good luck waiting. LOL.

Status Admitted
Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to the College of Pharmacy's Pharm.D. program at the University of Arizona. Final acceptance to the 2008-2009 school year for enrollment of all accepted applicants is contingent upon terms and conditions specified in the admissions letter that has been sent to the street address you provided in your application. Admission is also contingent upon receipt and complete evaluation of all your transcripts.

CHECK YOUR STATUS PAGES GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in guys!!!! More later...

I just got accepted too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay. I got in as well. I just checked my email and got an interview notice from Buffalo too. I couldn't be happier right now.

Congratulations to everyone, I am so excited to meet you all in the fall!

Add me in too! Unbelievable! I had to check it twice to make sure I wasn't hallucinating! Yaaaaaay!😀

Wow! This may be the biggest SDN UofA pharmacy class EVER! Good job all. Are you guys gonna try and just file your FAFSA to beat the March 1st deadline or are you gonna wait until Sandra Rogers contacts you?

I went ahead and filed today. You can always change it later if you need to. But since we will be graduate students, it's not like we will be competing for pell grants anyways, so I don't see the harm in waiting.

Yeah that's what I was thinking... no harm in waiting since we aren't going for pell grants. I will probably file in the next couple of days but I'll need to dig up my taxes from this year (boo).

I just checked mine and i was denied 🙁 but congrats to those of you who got in. If you dont mind me asking what where your guy's stats?

3.9+ cumulative/science/pre-req GPA
PCAT: 87 composite, 92 Chemistry
1+ year licensed Pharmacy Technician in retail setting (worked 20 hours/week, total hours ~1000 hours)

wow, congrats guys!

6/6 of my friends who applied got into the program. They were freaking out because they thought that their grades and ECs weren't good enough. I remember the week before the decisions were up, some were really tense. One of my friends wasn't really happy or sad. She said it just felt like nothing happened. Haha.

First, congrats to everyone who got in, it is a big accomplishment. Could the people who got in do me a favor and post what kind of pharmacy experience you have and how much experience (i.e. hours, years etc...). Thanks in advance.

i applied but didn't get in to U of A. i applied to a couple of other schools. do you know what kind of things i could do to strengthen my application for next year if i don't get into to pharmacy school in the fall? i know i still have time before i will hear from schools but i want to have some backup plans prepared just in case. any feedback would be appreciated🙂 Thanks!

That link has some pretty useful information directly from the school's admissions department. You can also looked at archived meeting minutes on the left side bar if you want to read up topics discussed at previous year's pre-pharmacy club meetings. UA really emphasizes the holistic applicant. They aren't looking for the applicant with the 4.0 GPA/99 PCAT with no other experiences. From my understanding, severe deficiencies in the following parts of the application can knock you out of the running:

- interviewing skills
- writing skills (this includes handwriting legibility)
- academic record
- EC's/community service
- motivation/reasons for pursuing pharmacy
- LOR's

Perhaps it would be helpful to see if there are things you can do to improve in any of those mentioned aspects of your application. I'm only a student, so my guess is just as good as anyone else's, but that's what I've gathered from UA's application process. Contact the school for the most comprehensive information. Hope this helps!

I would go ahead and fill out the Financial Aid package. The offer everyone the same package, approximately $29,500 for the year. There is also going to be a scholarship application that they will email you about in june/july, be sure to fill itout, most everyone who did got at least $1500. You obviously do not have to accept the entire offer, but tuition is approximately $14,500. Congrats to everyone who has gotten in. Are any of you guys in PHYSIO-480, just wondering because we are taking the class righ now and a few peope I toured during the interview process were in the class. Congrats once again!

I guess I will be the one who brings the averages down for those that got accepted.

BA in Spanish
Overall GPA - 3.55
PCAT 1st time 47%, 2nd time 65%, 3rd time 58%.
About 100 hours of shadowing
Close to 200 hours of Community service activities.

I had an amazing interview. It when really well. So I guess that was the trick.

Does anyone know if we will receive our fingerprint card application along with our acceptance package, or do we need to make arrangements to pick one up ourselves? I just want to be on top of things here, since it is due by 4/26 and it takes 3-5 weeks processing time.

Hi sASU,

In regards to your pharmacy experience inquiry, I have been a certified tech for 3.5yrs. I have worked both retail and inpatient pharmacy; retail for a year and inpatient 2.5. I have also been involved in bioanalytical research as an undergrad for 2.5yrs.

My UofA-specific prereq GPAs are:
Science: 3.57
nonscience: 3.9

PCAT composite: 86
Chem subsection: 98

I went ahead and called the AZDPS and requested they send me an application for a fingerprint clearance card. The lady on the phone said that we had the option to either pick it up or have it mailed to us (I chose the latter). I assumed that we were responsible for obtaining the application and then sending it in. We'll probably hear more about this later.

AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

I am having a hard time deciding between UA and Midwestern-Glendale. It is driving me nuts!!!!!! There are good things about both schools, things i really like, but I can't make up my mind!!!!!

HELP ME!!!!!

U of A cost less for me so it was an easy decision. Also its ranked higher than Midwestern, even though that might not mean anything now but in the future...

There are no official rankings for pharmacy schools.
The unoffical rankings are largely based on grant $$$ from research.
So I do not recommend using that as your decision making tool... with that said, U of A is apparently an excellent program.

I know that I personally prefer Tucson to Phoenix/Glendale so I would've picked UofA. But I didn't apply to those schools so I didn't have to make that choice.

While I agree the rankings aren't exactly accurate, I think they do have some kind of truth to them. Grant money does a lot for schools besides just research. Those rankings also consider other aspects. I've been to three out-of-state interviews, and they all have said how much they respect UofA as a top notch pharm school. Hence, I'm thinking UofA has better networking and overall reputation than Midwestern does. Considering the reputation is one aspect to think about.

Personally, I don't like the three year program concept. I feel like they are just rushing you through. I want to be able to get more experience than a three year program would give me. But if you want to save that year (=100K more you could make) it could be worth it to you.

Tucson is slightly cheaper and cooler than Phoenix...lol. Of course UofA is getting rid of a lot of the parking on campus next year. 😡

Since we will be on the other side of Speedway next semester, we shouldn't have to worry about any parking issues. But if you need to go to the main campus, it may be difficult to find parking.

when I was finishing up undergrad they'd just built like 2 more garages --- what happened to those? (I'm thinking the one on Mabel and the one on ummm 6th and Cherry or so?)

That sucks! I always tell people how the parking situation was far superior at UofA than it is at UNM!

I'm just afraid people will start taking those spots close to the pharm school since Zone 1 is the cheapest. There's a CatTran stop right there so its an easy parking place.

Those are still there. They are just getting rid of a lot of the surface parking to build new dorms and expand the rec center. The days of good campus parking are over.

Your right about that. I may just have to fork out the cash and get myself a lot specific permit. Mable street is a nice place to park, but it costs around 500$/yr.

Yeah, I am thinking about Lot Specific too. There is actually one right outside Bio 5. I guess UofA parking is finally becoming like other large universites-nonexistent.

I found out I got on the alternate list for the fall 08 class. i am currently taking 1 science class during the spring, so ua might be waiting on that. But does anyone know or have experience with how ua operates their alternate list? Is there some sort of ranking and how soon do they notify students who have their status changed to accpeted?

I don't think anyone would really know how UA handles the alternate list since we're not on the admissions commitee - but it seems like they try to reevaluate their candidates toward the end of the spring semester. At this time, they take into consideration January PCAT scores and updated transcripts when determining their ranked alternate list. If you search the forums, there are people who've gotten in as late as the first week of August, and there are also people who get in March as some people decline their spots for other schools. UA is generally very good about communicating with their students through e-mail and the status page so I'm sure they will let you know as soon as they find something out. Good luck

Hey,
for people on the waiting list, has anyone heard back yet? or know anything about it? i know people find out as late as august, but I'm stuck between Midwestern and UA.... so just wondering if they've starting accepting people on the UA waitlist and see if i should even keep hoping lol 🙂

YES!!! I just called Marty today and she just told me I got in as an alternate. Good luck to all those who are also on the list, there is hope. I'm out and off to travel for a couple of months. See all those in class of 08 in Tucson whenever the orientation is. Peace!!!

Congrats! See you August 18th bright and early...lol. I am really not looking forward to the orientation.
