I matched radonc & am doing a prelim medicine year -- does anyone have any pearls of wisdom for me? I'd like to know if there are elective rotations that were tremendously helpful (other than the obvious heme/onc) or rotations that were just a waste of time. Also, are there topics/areas you wish you had paid more attention to or worked harder at commiting to memory before starting your PGY 2 in radonc?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Things I wish I did that may have helped:
- Take Step 3 early
- Master the physical exam
- Get used to looking at your own films/talking with radiology

Things I did that helped:
- Took a fair amount of blow-off rotations
- Got to know a lot of the specialists I would be working with

Things that don't help:
- ICU rotations
- Studying rad-onc
- Worrying about how to make intern year more useful 🙂

Just get through it!
