I am pleased to announce that a new School of Pharmacy will be opening at the University of Maryland Eastern Shores during the fall of 2010.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shores is located in Princess Anne, Md., 20 minutes from Ocean City.

More information will be available within coming days at www.umes.edu/pharmacy. Details will also be published in this forum as well.

And it still sucks this year...
I'm curious if Maryland is experiencing a profound shortage of pharmacists. I can understand a state opening new schools to produce in-state students who will graduate and work within the state but... yeah, doesn't seem like that's the trend.

Balmer kinda has a shortage...as does the area around DC...but that because it's Balmer and DC. Nobody wants to live there. Even though Baltimore is an awesome town with a vibrant Inner Harbor with sweet, (relatively) cheap condos, an ESPN Zone, and a Dave and Buster's. Hell, I might move there.

Haha, I'll be in the DC/Virginia area so maybe I'll grow to like the area. I suppose it really depends on what a person is looking for in terms of living conditions and lifestyles.

Well, correct me in I'm wrong, but up until Notre Dame this year, the Baltimore/DC area has had University of Maryland and Howard Univeristy, and that's it. A decently sized city in Baltimore, and a major metropolitan area in DC, and there's two schools between them. Plus, Delaware is right next door and has no pharmacy school at all, as far as I gathered from PharmCAS. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a shortage in that area. And yes, I agree, Baltimore is very nice in some areas.

Keep in mind, yes, there are more and more pharmacy schools opening, but a lot of them tend to be around the same areas. How many schools do California, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida have between them?

The schools opening in California, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida will definitely saturate the demand for pharmacists but people who are willing to move will move. A state wanting to open a school in-state with the intent of providing more in-state pharmacists rather than relying on recruiting from out of state is not unreasonable.

I thought I read somewhere that Delaware, even though it doesn't have a pharmacy school, doesn't have a shortage (at least not a serious one) because of all the pharmacy graduates spilling over from the Philly/NJ area. All we need is for Drexel to open up a pharmacy school and Philly will be set. 😀

Drexel 2010...supposedly!

b/c philly isnt saturated enough...

It would have been worth it if a new pharmacy school adds in NJ, seriously... There is only one School in the state where 75% of world major pharmaceuticals have presence and Where competition is one of the toughest one..!!🙄🙄
