I didn't see a 2013 thread for University of Wisconsin so I thought I'd start one. Just got my acceptance today and am ECSTATIC since UW is my #1 choice!! Anyone else excited and/or seriously considering attending UW this fall?! I AM. Hopefully we can get some networking going on! Congrats to all accepted! Let's get this forum going strong!

:biglove: :biglove: :biglove:

I am also attending UW this fall. I was accepted to the WARM program this past December, about a week before Christmas. I, too, am super excited, as UW/WARM was my #1 choice!

The link to the facebook group is: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=27100724604&ref=mf !!!! Took me a while to find it but I finally did. yay!!!

Oh and i had another question, does anyone know any good places to find summer sublets in madison?? because of my current lease running out and my husbands new job starting in June, i have to move to madison early. i already have my lease for the school year but it doesn't start till aug. 15th. I need a place for summer and it doesn't necessarily have to be right near campus either (so expensive). where should i look? what areas?

also, what kinds of things are there to do in madison in summer!? i'm excited. and should I look glance at any med school materials over summer to prepare for schoolyear???? if so which ones?

thanks!

WARM class of 2013...yippee!!!

...what kinds of things are there to do in madison in summer!?
I LOVE the farmers market by the capital. It's a good reason to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. Coming away with some tasty veggies for the week definitely makes my day! Two thumbs up! 👍👍

:hello: I am 98.5% sure that this is where I'll be come August!!! (Still waiting to hear from a local, highly improbably school). I cannot tell you how excited I am - can't wait to meet all of you!!! 😀

I am SO excited to say I am officially part of this thread!

Letter received and form sent back today confirming that I will be attending... was there ever a doubt? 🙄

So we need to get the antibody testing, send transcripts, and criminal background check- is there anything else that we need to do before moving?

speaking of moving, where are all of you moving from? My wife and I both grew up between Madison and Milwaukee (Delafield area if you're familiar) but have lived in St Paul for the last 9 years (well she's only been here 8).

When is everyone thinking of moving, I was thinking of getting there in mid-late July to get us both settled and such.

As far as stuff to do, I think just the titers/immunizations, background check, and send transcripts. However, I think some need to be done earlier than the others so you'd have to double check the dates.

We're moving from Berkeley, CA. My husband is from Madison, so that will make some decisions a little easier. But I'm 20 weeks pregnant 😱 and we need to sell our house - so when we move is a little bit more up in the air. Think I can get residency status if I have my kid in Madison? lol... j/k.

haha ya know what, I was kinda curious about that too, my wife and I hopefully will have a kid in the first two years...

We are hoping to move mid-late July, just to let everyone adjust and get acquainted with the area.

We only have to move from Green Bay, so not a huge move. But the whole selling the house thing is a little more difficult when you have three kids ages five and under 😱

I haven't even celebrated yet... need to schedule that in one of these days- even if it takes until July to do so 😉

How long did it take for everyone to get email confirmation of receipt of the form accepting the offer for the class?

Just want to ensure that I don't lose my place!

Took me about a week after I sent it in. But, that was over Christmas, too. So I'd say a week max...(or near that anyways!).

oh my!! congrats to crelal, nanon, and all others who were recently accepted!!! I haven't been on here in a while and am so happy to see your good news!! It's also so nice to see people with families. I'm due with my first baby in 3 weeks!!!!! My husband and I are moving to Madison June 1st. (right after my college graduation!) So i'm sooooo excited. I was going to just move to madison right before school started but I think it will be really nice to get used to the city as others have mentioned!!!! So yeah, congrats to everyone! I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

ahhhhh finally some more action on this thread... I look every day!!

It sounds like my wife and I will be there the last couple weeks of July. however we will probably make a trip there in April or May to look at housing. Do any of you all have any idea as to where you may want to live?

Looks like we're going to rent our house and move at the end of May / beginning of June. The baby is due in the beginning of July. Whew! I feel like we're planning a land invasion right now!

Did anyone else get their OASIS account? Knowing that this makes me a big nerd, I gotta say that I got a little giddy opening up our schedule for next year.

I really can't wait to meet you all!

S.

I'm right there with you Nanon, I quickly activated my Oasis account and read t=all the stuff they had posted in there-the schedule and the information about the white coat ceremony really solidified the fact that I would be there in August and made me chuckle...

Did you ever ask them about the instate v. out of state in regards to having your baby there?

Well... turns out I didn't need to. But I'll ask for you today, because I'm calling financial aid. I'll let you know!

😀

Hmmm... what do you mean you didn't have to?

I actually ended up calling them anyways:

So, my wife and I both grew up in WI, both graduated HS in WI (2000) but have lived in MN since that time. My folks moved from WI about 8 years ago-this evidently is what was the determining factor as I will NOT be eligible for in state status at all for four years while my wife will be the day we move back because her folks still live there. Also, I asked and it turns out that buying property and/or procreating will not change this at all... So it looks like OOS for us for the four years. Not a huge deal though, this school definitely is worth it. Plus cost of living is dirt cheap compared to the Twin Cities...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the answer to your question may lay in her MDApps profile ...

Congrats! I heard there are only 2 of those scholarships per class; they must really like you. I can't fathom how happy you and your family must be right now.

We're pretty blown away. Floored. Stunned. Overwhelmed. If I'm not whooping for joy, I'm verklempt. I keep expecting them to call me and say, "Um... we're so sorry... we made a huge mistake," not, "Here, have this big greasy bag of money!" :meanie: I had no idea that there were only 2. If it's the same scholarship, all I can say is... :wow:

Waiting for the April rankings, maybe I'll join you guys once people withdraw in late May

Congrats Nanon! You deserve it! 🙂

I did get the email confirmation and Oasis account information... it was nice to have things to do while waiting to sell the house.

I would love to move beginning to mid-July, but everything depends on a buyer for the house right now...

August 17th is going to come fast!!!!😍

We decided just to rent the house. The market here is just too awful, and we'll at least be able to pay our mortgage with the rent we'll get. We're refinancing right now. Also, we want to get there before the baby is born. I just can't wrap my head around moving with a tiny, 2 week infant. (I can just barely wrap my head around moving across the country 36 weeks pregnant! Lol!)

Anyone else feel like they're planning a massive land invasion?

ETA: Thanks!

We closed on our home when I was 36 weeks pregnant- I got put on bedrest two days later... my son's way of making sure I didn't have to do too much 😉

He arrived at 37 weeks... I was sure he would be late. 🙄

We have considered the idea of renting out the house... but would prefer to sell at this point as the market is not quite as bad here. It would also allow us to move down sooner (June/July) versus mid/end of July.

Ahhh... back to work... only 4 months more to go, then I get to relax for a bit!

Hey, does anyone know what semester anatomy will be held in next year? Are they keeping it in the Spring? (Hoping so...)

And Crelal, you are describing my husband's worst nightmare. He's sure I'm going to deliver early... like, on the airplane out there. Actually, I think he's mostly worried that the baby will come before the furniture, and I am too, a little. My son came at 38 weeks.

Congrats on the scholarship! That's incredible news! :claps:

When I was down there for my interview, I spoke with a few of the first years and they said that they were under the impression that the school was moving anatomy back to the fall semester. I don't know that for sure, but that's the rumor that was floating around when I was there.

I'm starting to look at apartments around the school. Where are you all looking to move? Any places you guys suggest I consider? 😕

Ah, well. I guess I better make my peace with it. :/ I kind of liked the idea of having it in Spring because it seems like a pretty physical class that could take up a significant portion of your day, and I'll be 1.5 months post-partum. (And thanks for the congrats, although I'm still convinced they must have made some sort of clerical error, lol).

I wish I could be of more help with the apartment locating. When we were first looking, my husband (who doesn't want to live in the suburbs) wanted to live on the East side. Craigslist seemed to have a good selection of listings. As it turns out, a friend of ours is letting us rent her childhood home a few miles from school. Yay!

I have some friends/family that live in Madison and they have been suggesting the following areas:
1.Villas
2. Monroe
3. Marquette
4. Stark-(something or other...I can't remember the second part)

My problem is when I find a place on craigslist that lists an address, I have no idea where that address is so I have to use google maps constantly...

As far as finding specific buildings, I was using apartmentratings.com and searching the Madison area. This came up with a ton of places that were reviewed and recommended by previous/current tenants.

Oh, and I was hearing the same thing regarding anatomy being moved back to first semester.

Oh my gosh! congrats nanon on the scholarship. Lol. maybe it IS a clerical error cuz I got the same exact one too !!!!! lol. :soexcited:

I received the letter last week and was blown away!!!! This is such a blessing!!! I was definitely not expecting this! GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!!!

Also, I really hope it's a rumor about anatomy back in fall. I was planning to nurse my newborn throughout the summer and throughout the fall. But I don't want to have to wear a respirator!! lol. but we'll see.

I'm so excited right now! I don't know what to do! My baby is due in less than 2 weeks, i'm about to graduate from college in May, and then start my new life in Madison!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And ya, the whole respirator thing... eesh. I guess all you can do is roll with it. :/

Wow! Two SDNers with a huge scholarship! How exciting for you both! Congratulations!

Does anyone have any idea what a typical day is like? Do classes start at 8:00 or 9:00? I've tried to find a sample day schedule, but can't seem to get a hold of one...

Glad to see so much excitement here. Just to answer a couple of your questions:

1) Anatomy should still be in the spring. There was a lot of back and forth about rearranging the schedule, and going back to an A/B/C graded system, but the latest I've heard from our MSA reps is that first year will remain pass/fail and anatomy will remain a spring course. I will update this if I hear anything to contradict it.

2) A typical day will start at 8. Also remember that at any "typical" lecture less than one third of the class attends (and even less for 8 am lectures). 😉

Congrats on the scholarships ladies!!!!

I think I have everything in now- financial aid, antibody testing, background check, apartment app, and the all important day care waitlist forms 🙂

As far as apartment searching goes- beware Mifflin St./immediate East side of undergrad campus if you value peace- it tends to get a little loud ~4 nights/week. The general areas you listed (Vilas/Monroe) tend to be a little more low-key, but still have some things going on- especially during Football games.

I am so ready to move! Work is interesting, but it is a little harder to stay focused the past few weeks 🙄

I like the idea of Anatomy in the spring- it's going to be paired with Physiology, right?

What did everyone think of the request to be exempt from classes? I took Biochem and did well, but I still think it will be good to have the review. And my undergrad course couldn't have possibly covered everything we'll need to know, right?

Oh yeah... does anyone have the facebook group link for our class? Can't seem to find it 😕

the facebook link is http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...0724604&ref=mf .

For anyone that can help, i also would love to know the sample schedule for the week. Thanks.

also, for those of you wondering about housing. my husband and I found a nice 2 bedroom in a 4 family complex right off of university ave. (~2 min away from HSLC). We drove around the area right next to school and found a for rent sign of a guy who was privately renting. He owns a LOT of properties (all sizes) near the hospital area but doesnt really advertise online. His prices are comparable to Goldleaf and Steve Brown Apts but you get more square footage and he personally takes care of maintenance himself. He seems like a really nice guy and really goes crazy about keeping his apartments clean and up to date!!! If anyone wants his number, PM me! It's worth a try.

Hey everyone! I'm so excited that I just found the facebook group and SDN forum today! Reading through the posts on here so far, I need to echo what 2Blessed said: I am pleasantly surprised to see so many married people and people with families on here. I was afraid I might be the only one!

Congrats to all who got scholarships. I received my notice last week and was also absolutely floored!

My husband and I are living in Uganda now but I'm originally from Madison. I am planning to move back to Madison exactly one week before orientation starts (I'm hoping that allows sufficient time to get over jet-lag and reverse-culture-shock!) Don't know where I'm going to live yet, but my mom is helping me search.

Looking forward to meeting all of you in August.

For anyone that can help, i also would love to know the sample schedule for the week. Thanks.

First semester you'll have class 9-12 monday through friday, with small groups two afternoons per week for 2-3 hours. 8 AM classes are pretty rare but do occur from time to time. Second semester will be a bit busier with small groups about 3-4 days per week in the afternoon and approximately the same amount of class. The actual schedule is somewhat variable from week to week but the amount of hours is pretty similar.

Awesome! Thanks so much, drizz! 😀

Congratulations on the acceptance and the scholarship! I just counted out that I only have 80 more work days until the move (not counting the two week vacation to Mexico).

Thanks for the schedule- August seems so far off!

In reality it's only five months away...It's going to go by fast!🙂

Does anyone know anything about the scholarships? Are they renewable? Under what conditions?
