I interviewed at SUNY a week and a half ago and they said that they had filled most of the class. They aren't accepting anyone right now..they put people either on "hold" or rejected and aren't taking anyone off until the admissions cycle ends March 1st. Then they have to interview anyone worthwhile that applies from now until then. They told me I might now know until mid-April...

I understand, I applied in October but the interview invitation came a little late so I was wondering if they would take that into consideration. Hopefully they will I have my fingers crossed.
Did they put you on hold or just not give you a decision?

Do you know how many spots remain/are available still at SUNY?
I just found out about my interview, and I have no idea how likely it is that I will get in.
I heard as well that regardless of whether you are accepted or on hold, to "hold your spot" for the school year you have to place a deposit.

I submitted my application last Friday and my fees couple days ago. I was invited to an interview today. But I am pretty sure the class is pretty much filled.. so is my chance REALLY SLIM??? I am from Canada so I have to fly there.. is it worth it to go there??

The class must not be full since they are still interviewing. Your stats are really good so I would think that it would be worth a shot. If you had bombed your OAT I would tell you otherwise but you are a competitive applicant so go for it!

Wait, so although their deadline is 2/28, they only interview til 3/1?

the former question I am not too certain off but then that's the impression I got I could have been wrong since they are still interviewing. As for the latter question, that is what they told me that most people they are interviewing are being placed on hold till after March 1st and that they are not making as many acceptances as they were making earlier in the admission cycle.
In my email, they said they are hoping to finish interviews by the end of March. I am thinking they probably have 10-20 spots left and after interviewing everybody, they will make the decision.. around early April.

The deposits are refundable until the end of this month. I'm sure they will figure out who is more seriously considering it vs who just hasn't withdrawn their deposit yet.

Well, they accepted 150 people in 2007, and 153 in 2008. Of course all of those people did not put down deposits... But who knows who that "little birdie" is or whether that's accurate info.
There are 43 people in the facebook group. I sincerely doubt there are 47 more who are definitely going to SUNY and just have no desire to meet their future classmates.

It's possible people are not on the facebook page because they don't really know about it or are not members on here. The only reason I know about the facebook group is because I am on this site
Of course that is very possible. And its also very possible that some just aren't on facebook or just don't care. But all it takes is to search "SUNY Optometry" in facebook and the class groups come up... it wouldn't take much to think, "well hey, maybe my class already has a group made" then click to the next page. I don't think very many people who tried to do that 30 second search would fail.
I just don't think that people who are really trying for SUNY should give up hope so easily because some anonymous person said that there are over 100 deposits paid. At least wait until the refund deadline comes around before you start thinking it's over!

I actually didn't join the facebook group until recently, even though I got accepted to ICO in November. We have 160 kids who are going to be part of the ICO Class of 2013, and yet we have only 43 kids in our fb group. I think you also have to consider that some people aren't coming straight out of undergrad and dont have fb...
