I say after the new AMCAS cycle is opened up. Thoughts?
Agreed. You are not a medical student until you've been one for at least an hour. But I see it often that someone puts MS-0 under their name, instead of their membership status. I think it's nice to see this indication that someone's been accepted somewhere.Pretty much the consensus has always been day 1 of med school. Until you sit down for your first class, you're not really "doing it" yet.

That excited, eh?
I can wait. I might not wait to pick up some school-associated swag, though.😀
Edit: Not "__ School of Medicine" swag, but just "__ University" swag..
How about the first day of orientation?
Heh that's the thing about Baylor, since it's not associated with an undergrad school (yet...), I can't get the ____ University swag... so basically I have to the the BCM swag and come off pretentious or get nothing at all for now 🙁
Oh, boo! You can't get one that just says "Baylor"?👎
Edit: Like this?

Baylor University (Waco, Green and Gold) =/= Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Blue and Burgundy). Common misconception is that the two schools are connected, when in fact they are not. Though it looks like Baylor might merge with Rice soon...
Oh, wow. That is terribly confusing. Sorry!😳
Edit: Well, do THEY have anything that doesn't have "HAYLOOKITMEIMAMEDSTUDENTHAHAHAHA" plastered all over it?![]()

HahaTo be honest I haven't looked yet. Honestly I don't think I'd want to get anything until I start in the fall, just because getting into Baylor is kind of a big deal in Texas, and even if it doesn't scream "HEYLOOKITME" to the masses, my fellow pre-meds here probably would not be terribly amused at me flaunting my acceptance. They'd know what it was.
There'll be plenty of time for school pride later 🙂
This school I am going to is a stand alone School of Medicine. Still debating whether or not to get any swag as I don't want to look to much like a tool. Perhaps a shirt with a small emblem?
Ahhh, true. I'm not going to make any purchases until I set semi-permanent foot in the city of my medical future. At least my new colors won't be some variant of orange and maroon, or maroon and some other ghastly color.
Mason's green and gold was a nice break from that.👍
😱
What's the matter w/ maroon? I LOVE maroon! It was my HS color, my undergrad color, and "burgundy" is close enough for me to consider it my med school color too! Plus I randomly happen to have a long history w/ leading the "maroon group" at our church retreats (always seem to pull that color out of the hat when we choose colors); it's practically part of who I am now 😀
Though honestly, I'm glad that Baylor pairs blue with it; maroon's actually not very flattering on me, and I think blue is probably my best color 🙂
Well, see I like maroon. It's a great color, but I just haven't had good experiences with maroon-associated schools.![]()
Sic 'em 👍Oh, boo! You can't get one that just says "Baylor"?👎

lol @ this thread.

dude, you have way too much time on your hands if this is what's on your mind right now...😱

I don't think you will necessarily "look like a tool" assuming you are actually attending/committed to attending. I mean, I didn't really buy that much undergrad swag, but it's not a superduper big deal. As for the X University v. X Med School...I would probably wear X Med School because that's what I would feel a connection to. But it's really not a big deal. This school I am going to is a stand alone School of Medicine. Still debating whether or not to get any swag as I don't want to look to much like a tool. Perhaps a shirt with a small emblem?
I like this idea. Once I graduated from high school I no longer thought of myself as a senior--I was basically a college freshman. Similarly, I no longer really think of myself as a premed. The game is over and my neuroticism is fading fast. 😎Yah this is my thoughts. Day 1 of orientation or the weekend right before you are about to start. That's about the earliest I'd change it. Or at the very least at least wait for graduation day from ugrad or any grad program you are in prior to starting first and if working wait til the day you officially work your last day before changing it.
Not til you actually start. Nothing like a pre-med with "Medical Student" under their name trying to tell us what med school is really like.
Please consult with an internet law attorney who holds a J.D degree. Non-legal advice should be given on SDN.
I would be changing mine immediately upon acceptance! JK...maybe when you arrive to start medical school.
Gunner.
Haven't read the thread, and I have no dog in this fight, but maybe it would be helpful for additional categories including: accepted, MS 1, MS 2, etc...
It does seem silly for someone who is accepted to declare themselves a "medical student" prior to matriculation...
You say you are a medical student when you ARE A MEDICAL STUDENT.
You are not a medical student until you have been to medical school...
Obama wasn't the president until January. Before then he was president elect. So you are kind of like a "medical student elect" until you are officially "sworn in" (begin medical school).
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Some might die.
There's one user here who, in addition to changing her status to Medical Student immediately upon acceptance, had put "Dr." in front of her name on her myspace page! 🙄
see but aren't you technically sworn in at the white coat ceremony? Which could be a few days before classes actually start? I agree with you that you shouldnt change it until classes, but it sounds like you support the "after white coat ceremony" groupies. I'm just teasing tho. 😉
