(sorry it's so long)

I am currently attending a pharmacy school in PA. In PA, the BOP allows 750 hours to come from the APPE's from school, but the remainding 750 hours have to be done outside of school.

I know that Texas requires 1500 internship hours, and they accept all hours from the school.

Up until yesterday, I thought that I would just get all 1500 hours from my school since Texas is where I am planning on going after I graduate and that is also where I plan on doing all my APPE's, but someone told me that TX BOP only takes what the PA BOP will sign off on as internship hours. They told me I would need to do an extra 750 intern hours outside of school to get the PA BOP to notate I did 1500 hours.

Because of the confusion, I emailed the TX BOP, their response was that they take hours verified by the state board where I have earned the hours.

Does that mean since I will be doing all my APPEs in Texas, I am earning all my hours from the TX BOP? So I do NOT need to do an extra 750 hours outside of school?

😕 I would appreciate ANY help with this!

Thanks!

Just curious who you talked to? I was going through the PA BOP paperwork and it seems as though your school can REPORT 1500 hours from APPE's to the PA BOP. It's just that, if you decide to get a PA license, the max # of hours that can be considered for licensure is 750 (from that pot of 1500 APPE hours).

You might want to clarify with PA BOP what exactly is reported to another state if a) you request a report be sent AND b) your school reports 1500 hours.

Generally speaking, no matter where you do your APPE's, they're credited to the home institution (there's no double dipping in using 1 APPE hour as both a creditable "outside" intern hour AND a requirement for graduation). So even if you do your APPE in TX, the hours would be credited to your home institution in PA.

Hope this helps!

Hello,

I have been accepted to a pharmacy program in PA, but I am from Texas and would like to work in Texas after I graduate. I am struggling with the idea of attending an out of state school or waiting another year and applying again to Texas schools. I would like to know how you went about doing all your APPEs in Texas and if you had any trouble getting all of internship hours.
