I'll be happy to trade PS reading with someone (or get all the help I can from you 2014ers) but I want to include some experiences that haven't happened yet, so I won't be ready until August.
 
I'd be happy to help out by reading/reviewing any PS for those applying this cycle. As with Minnerbelle, please tell me what kind of advice you want (nit picky grammar, overall flow, general concept, ideas, etc...). And, please take any advice with a grain of salt...

I'd also be willing to let those who are curious read mine from last cycle if interested.
 
Unlike Minnerbelle I am inflexible. Here are my conditions.

1) no grammar nitpick
I will read your PS and I will give overall advice and talk about specific ideas for improvement but I will not nitpick grammar or spelling. Well, maybe spelling if I'm in the sort of mood where little spelling errors make me want to stab people's eyes. But if I'm in that mood in the first place you might get a lot of snippy criticism. Which brings me to point 2...

2) have thick skin
Anyone who's had me read over a statement knows that I will be very thorough and give a lot of constructive feedback, but it might seem harsh. If you'll take it too personally please don't waste my time or yours. 😉

3) be a contributor here
Nothing on SDN, not even Brodiatrist or Pennvet, annoys me more than people who just post here three times: read my PS, interview invites, acceptances. That's great for you, congratulations, but don't expect me to help you out personally. I know not everyone has a lot of information to add but at least look like you've tried, participate in conversations and stuff. I will very likely just ignore your PM if you aren't a contributor and ask me to read your PS.

I reserve the right to add more conditions later. With those in mind, I will offer my opinions on your PS, which (as sumstorm likes to say) are worth what you paid for them, ultimately. 😉

and, although I am fairly new here at SDN, I totally have to agree with this one!!!
 
i'm in the middle of planning a major move, as i'm sure many others are, which limits my visits to the forum these days. but, i'd be willing to help out with personal statements as well. send me a PM if anyone is starting early and wants some guidance. 😀

Well I'm on day two of summer break and already going kind of stir crazy so if you have something you want read come on down! Nyanko does make a good point, don't just come out of the woodwork to get help and leave us after you get what you need. This is a community and it makes us feel taken advantage of.

Mostly agree with minnerbelle too though, just tell me what you want looked at and I will try to focus on that. Although some little grammar things WILL drive me crazy and I WILL point them out. Also I am willing to send mine out so you can get some ideas. If you are dumb enough to copy anything from anyone offering theirs from last cycle, adcoms will most likely know.

ETA:I will be gone from 6/23 to 7/4 so if I don't get back to you, don't take it personally. And good luck everyone applying!!
 
I'd be happy to read over stuff. Just don't get offended by my comments, i'm pretty blunt. But i try to give compliments too so it doesn't sound so harsh lol
 
I'd also love to help with personal statement editing! I've done this a few times already for friends, and I'd love to continue pointing out grammar issues, lack of transitions, bigger concepts, the "wow" factor, etc. Just PM me, and it would be helpful to know which schools you're thinking about applying to 🙂
 
Count me in for reading. I do count myself in the group of if you want grammar and spelling checked....use spelling and grammar check in Word. I'm notoriously horrible for errors myself. Other than that I would be more than happy to give feed back and drop my PS other people's way.

I'd be happy to help too, but my availability only lasts through the end of August. Once school starts up again in September, my time will be all gone...

I would recommend that anyone here looking for PS help try a few different sources (people that know you, your reference people, people that don't...). The more people the better! As for me personally, I had an awful time writing my PS but ended up being pleased with it. Although I talked about it and edited it with my eLOR writers, it never came up in interviews so I can only assume it did not hurt me.

I would be willing to read some over the summer, too. I have summer school finals and am moving next week and traveling occasionally but I'll have internet access! It just might take me a while. I can do grammar and content, and I'll try to be nice, but no promises 😛 I'd also be willing to send out mine if I still have it saved (like 99% sure I do). One of my primary research mentors is a dean of our vet school (Auburn) and he edited it thoroughly and gave it a "That's what I'm talkin' about!" so for what that's worth...

Yup, this. Some forums have a timer on how long you can edit your post, but I don't think this one does. I remember last year editing the interview post several months after the fact.

Minnerbelle - My name looks so naked compared to everyone else's. Would you mind adding back in that I'd love to point out grammar issues, lack of transitions/flow, overall concept, the "wow" factor/hook, etc. Also, once mid-August hits I probably won't have any more free time, but during the bulk of summer I'm available via email. Also, if people are looking for completely an "outside" source, my dad is a writer. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I flooded him with others personal statements. 😉
 
Oh, could you add me please! I'd definitely love to help out anyone who wants me to read their PS anytime (though it might take longer to respond in the fall). I love hearing people's stories! I can check for grammar (but I don't know how helpful I'll be), content, cohesiveness and overall tone. Also, I definitely don't mind sending my PS to read as an example afterwards!
