...is there any real chance of landing a hospital position (particularly in Florida) later down the road? I hear hospitals are generally more willing to hire new grads than experienced retail pharmacists. Do my ears deceive me?

I can tell you that anticipatory repudiation needs to have an unequivocal indication. So if you're properly trained to be a hospital pharmacist, then your chance is better than the ones without.
 
Oh, I should clarify...is there more than a 3-5% chance?
 
You will compete against other hospital pharmacists and residency trained new grads in already saturated environment. What do you think your chances will be like?
 
I am inquiring specifically about new grad vs. retail-experienced pharmacists. It is obvious that a hospital pharmacist (residency-trained or not) would be more qualified.

And at what point do you feel any job would be available to only new grads or retail RPhs making a switch???

ehhhh about equal chance. i now work with previous retail young druggists who are in managerial role at a large hospital. they work their asses off and have a very good sense of numbers.

if theres any silverlining to oversupply of pharmacists, its seeing less and less self entitled young punk grads expecting a red carpet treatment.

My assistant manager is a new grad (first job, in Florida, chain retail) and she said after 2 years of retail she feels like she'll forget everything she needed to know interning in the hospital. I'm obviously not in pharmacy school yet, so I can't comment on the intended seriousness of that statement, but retail is pretty different I assume (I've only volunteered in the hospital packaging asthma meds)... and employers might have some biases towards pharmacists who've already been 'molded' by their job for a few years I suppose.
 
Aww, to hell with this. I'll just take the first offer I got for the gig in Alaska. $230k/yr plus $140k sign-on bonus is tough to beat. Plus, I really would like to see a Grizzly bear.

Okay so I lied, it was pulmozyme... but I was kinda close I guess. I've only slept about 2 hours, and that was in a car... they say it's worse than being drunk...

And pepcid vials - we use to stock one vial + pre printed label in a mini-ziploc up in the med surg Pyxis. Everyone should be forced to taste zithromax, amoxicillin, and robotussin AC... They be rancid.

Okay fine...If you want hospital, apply for a residency. It's going to be hard as hell to get a job as a hospital pharmacist with no experience unless you worked at a hospital as an intern or a tech. If you want an example on how hard it is to find a job without residency experience, just ask mikey (wvu dude) The only caveat to that is if you are willing to work nights 7 on 7 off like dgrolex. Then again, she graduated from UF so she is special 🙂

If your retail job is with Publix, take it. Its the best retail experience you will get in Florida. It's an awesome company to work for if you have to work retail!

I'm not an intern, I was a pee-on volunteer... unfortunately after some genius decided to steal from the in-patient pharmacy and force the department to re-write the entire guidelines on volunteer duties and restrictions. So I basically got to package respiratory meds in zip-locks and place pre-printed labels on top all day.

I'm a retal tech so I've worn antibiotic suspensions, and keflex is definitely the most disgusting.

Haha my Spanish is tragic garbage considering certain members of my family actually pronounce Publix like that... I'm not planning to move back to Miami anytime soon though, so I should be okay with the Spanglish I've got.

that was the case from early 2000's til bout 2 years ago. a new grad actually pulled that crap last year...and he ended up without a job. he thought he was some hot chit..

The funny thing is now I work at a hosptial that is run by Spain! And I still don't speak much Spanish! :laugh:

A&M will never break away from Texas...but if they did, they will be like Mississippi State

and Miami has never cheated! We just piss people off because we are better than everybody else! So there was a scandle in 1997...whatever!

The scuffle with FL Atlantic was classic - Fl Atlantic suspended the entire team... What did Miami due? Sanction 2 punks...
