Hi, I'm an overly enthusiastic first year pre med student. Right now I hold a greencard. By the time I apply to med school, I would be in the process of applying for a citizenship. Yet, depending on how long it takes, i might have to wait a year after graduation to get my citizenship. With a high GPA and MCAT scores, is it necessary to hold a citizenship or is a greencard good enough?

Having a green card makes you eligible for US med schools, and I don't think it matters if you are a citizen or a green card holder. Double-check with the schools you are applying to.

Permanent residents and U.S. citizens are treated equally in the application process.

As a legal permanent resident of the U.S. you have all the rights that a U.S. citizen possess except the right to vote. So you are all set brotha 👍
