So I keep seeing more programs added to the list that have sent out interviews but my inbox has remained sadly empty (1 invite so far out of the ~40 programs I applied to). Of course the invite thread doesn't tell me if the programs have sent out most or all of their invites or just a small fraction. I believe I have a good application but it is hard not to start fretting.

So, a quick question to those that have gone before and anyone else that would happen to know, have most of the programs on that list sent out most or all of their invites at this point?

Also, any other applicants are welcome to pitch in with how you are doing with this process as misery does love company. Or you can tell us how you've got more interview invites than you know what to do with if you're lucky enough to be in that position.

I know this thread is a bit neurotic but it is hard not to be a touch neurotic during this process so thanks for your understanding.

I feel ya sauce, I've had 2 interview invites out of ~40. I think its a bit early to fret though. Dean's letter just went out Monday and ASTRO goes until the 4th. I wouldn't be surprised if you get a barrage of responses by next week.

It's okay to worry - only normal. It is early, though, and though I'm not entirely sure about the relating to ASTRO timing (that didn't seem to matter the 2nd time I applied), you shouldn't really worry too much unless you have a very small number at the beginning of December. It really seems to tail off around then. Good luck.

Ya, I wouldn't get too excited (or depressed) just yet. I matched last year, and if I remember correctly I only had a couple of interviews by this time. Most came in November, consistently 2-3/week all the way up till the first week of december. So wait till mid-december before you start concocting crazy plans or purchasing any lethal weapons. Just try to breath every now and then and prevent stress ulcers for the time being. Hard to do when you're in the moment...

1 out of 31 here. I keep seeing that list of programs I applied to on the invited list growing without me on it. Praying away here.

I keep hearing there are multiple rounds of invites, so hopefully it really is a waiting game. Prelim med IVs start for me this week so here goes nothing...

. . . each PD made it clear that interviews are not automatic for rotating students :scared: have other people heard the same thing about interviews for rotators or is it just me???

That seems to be pretty standard as I was told the same thing and have heard it from others.

Yea... definitely no automatic invites for rotators, particularly at top flight programs. Personally, I appreciate that. If I receive an invite from either of the programs I rotated at (fingers crossed) I'll know it's because they might actually rank me, not just a courtesy. That's the only kind of interview I would want.

just so you all know, i think everyone who had at least 8 contiguous ranks matched according to the nrmp data on their website

Yeah I agree w/ the above, if you worked at a place for a month and they invite you to an interview just out of courtesy nothing you do at that point is going to wow them into reconsidering you as an applicant. I'd rather save the cash money and get the rejection/ego damage.
I've only got 3 invites so far w/ 2 rejects 1 waitlist, which I'll admit is probably as good as a reject. Like many I've panapplied. Fingers crossed for the away rotation spots. If it makes people feel better I received an invitation to interview at a program a couple days after it was originally posted on SDN.

Having 8+ interviews in no way ensures that you will match. There are real stories of people not matching with 12-13 interviews. Doesn't happen often but it does happen.

This is not meant to worry you, but rather let you know that it does happen.

Well, I guess anything can happen. Just got to stay positive.

We seem to be in pretty similar positions. But yeah if it makes people feel better, 2 of my 3 invites were received at least a couple days after the original invites were sent out per this forum.

Thanks for the replies. It helps to know others are in the same boat. Although my recent rejection from Yale makes me nervous that maybe one of my letters sucks or there is some other problem in the app. But at this point just have to wait and see.

@hotsauce

maybe they just don't think you're serious about going there. A rejection doesn't necessarily mean you're not qualified or an undesirable candidate. These people have limited space for interviews.

I'm in the same boat, Yale rejection here too. My buddy at my med school got the invite. It's hard for me to think I'm not "undesirable" when the only significant difference between our apps is that he's AOA and has a higher step 1 score.

anyone else still surprised at the relatively slow pace of invites vs. last year? only sitting with 4 rad onc interviews here....

hey cyberknife. Yea, definitely surprised more places havent moved decisions. Hopefully soon. Time to enjoy a great day of football!

In line with the nervousness, slightly odd Columbia and Washington still haven't dl'd apps.

What's worrying me is the same words in all the rejections about the inordinate amount of applications received this year. Of course that can be the common way of softening the blow. But small amount of spots means a small fluctuation in apps this year can = clusterf. Has anyone heard from home PDs about an increase in apps?

The residents at my home program said their were many more applicants this year (from our med school and from others) compared to previous years.

I agree with the sentiments that this "application inflation" is causing the increase in # of applications, rather than an increase in the gross number of individuals applying. Anecdotally, I know a number of people applying who applied to every single program, which i am pretty sure did not happen too often in the past, even just 3-4 years ago...

It is likely a combination of both. Not only are people applying to more programs, but based on the rad onc interviewees Ive met this year, number of students applying from their schools are also up. Either way, not something we can do anything about.

I would think that a more probable explanation for a spike in apps at a top program like UCSF, would be the increase in the number of applicants. I could see how applications at middle tier programs and newer programs would see increases (which also seems to be happening) due to applicants applying more broadly.

Regarless, I hope to see more entries on the interview invite thread really soon!

Yikes... this forum just feeds the anxiety. Thanks for the info though. From the MD Anderson reject email they said they received 204 applications, significantly more than the total from 2009 NRMP outcomes.
On the plus side got one more interview post SDN posting.

hey guys and gals, with all of the invites and rejections that seem to by flying around, just wondering how many interviews people have???

i have 6 right now. i'm still feeling very uneasy given the number of programs that have already invited...

sitting here with only 3 so far and am feeling more and more anxious as the list grows longer.

I only have 3 invites as well (and 4 rejections/wait lists). I can't really make any sense of who rejected me and who offered me an interview either. The only rationale I can see is that things really are very regional.

to continue this anxiety craze.. do people find it weird that UChicago sent out waitlist but there is no interview invites on the thread? 😡

I think there was a day or two between henry ford sending out rejections and it appearing on the invite thread. Could either be people are slow to update the list or that the program decides who they want to invite but is finalizing logistics such as interview dates and schedules before sending out the invites. If you didn't get the wait list emails I would take it as a good thing although obviously not a guarantee for an interview.

3 interviews, 3 rejections. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some good news for all of us!

1 interview and 3 rejections. applied to ~43 programs. should i be concerned?

Disclaimer: I have a perma pair of rose colored glasses stapled to my forehead, but I think everyone needs to remember you only need one interview to match 🙂

Everyone needs to calm down! It's early in the interview season. Invites will continue to go out. It's not time to start worrying yet.

2 interviews and 5 rejections with >60 applied. It's a bit reassuring to see that most people have just a few, if any, interviews and nobody is already stacking up 15 interviews and is almost guaranteed a match (unless those people are already out partying...). I've talked to several people who matched in the past few years and the consensus seems to be it is still too early and most will come in the next 2~3 weeks until after Thanksgiving time.

Still, the over 20 programs listed in the interview invites thread that I applied to but haven't heard back from make me nervous, crossing my fingers that I'll be on their next "round." Good luck everyone!

not a lot of movement today it seems. who knows, maybe tomorrow?

bleh, no invite email from Chicago, which apparently went out today, and no waitlist email from Chicago.... I guess this means rejection

but, let's don't freak out too much. it's still early!

Just wait until March...

To be honest, the people picking you all for interviews and then for positions are not really the most normal people, nor do they have a great rationale for picking the people that they do. Some of the weirdest people you meet on interviews will be selected by the top programs, and some of the nicest and smartest human beings you meet won't match. Just wait until March, and then you can really have something to complain/celebrate about. It's really tough to judge until then.

everyone says it's way early, but how come the rejections (and list of invited programs - but no yes/no answer for interview on my end, so "presumed rejection") keep growing exponentially?
