Advice for applying to EM after a medicine preliminary residency program.

I graduated medical school three years ago and I am planning on doing a one year medicine preliminary residency program and then acquiring recommendation letters and applying to EM residency programs. Does any one have any advice on this pathway???

Be sure you can account for your three year gap. Your tag line says you have an MPH. If you were getting that then you have no worries. Beyond that you may be asked why you want to do a prelim and then a residency rather than just go into residency. I know that often people who have had a gap want the refresher aspect of a prelim. If that's the case then great, just know you'll get asked about that.

If you apply to 1-4 year programs, they will give you highly variable "credit" for your prelim year. As little as a few months, as much as 1/2 year. You just have to ask when you interview.
