i'm relatively new to this site, but I've done a lot of searching regarding this topic so i'm hoping that someone who applied and had a gpa verification could help...

at my school ecology courses are listed under the department titled "ecology and natural resources". i plan on taking an evolution course in this department and i was wondering if it would be counted under BCP or other science.

thank you guys so much!

Yea this subject is easily confused...

This is directly from the AADSAS

"ADEA AADSAS reports: overall GPA (undergraduate, graduate and combined); and these undergraduate GPA's: biology-chemistry-physics GPA (BCP); science GPA (all science courses including math, natural sciences and BCP; non-science GPA."

From what I understand, if the courses have the prefix BI, PC, CH or MA (like BI121 or something) then they count as science GPA. Keep in mind that these can be different at each school...like one school may call it BI and another BIO. What matters is whether or not the courses belong to the biology, chemistry, physics, or math departments. Any other classes ( yours included ) is considered within the "other science".

This is how they instructed me to fill it out. What is tricky about your case is the fact that Ecology is a sub-field of biology haha. But because it is not specifically within the biology department, I would consider it other science.

If all else fails you can always call ADEA AADSAS's hotline at 617-612-2045 .. They have always been pretty friendly and helpful with me.

I hope this post helped you a little.

Good luck!

Most likely, it will be considered other science. If you want to raise your BCP, just make sure your classes are BIO,CHEM,PHYS in order to be 150% sure that it gets counted at BCP.

thanks guys

yea i mean i've emailed them and i've gotten different responses, ranging from "list it as biology" to "list it as other science". it is in fact a tricky situation because courses such as zoology, for instance are only offered by the ecology and natural resources dept. at my school.

can anyone who recently applied and had their grades verified add to this discussion?

From what I've read, it really depends on who is verifying your transcripts. Some people list it as BCP and when they submit it, it gets verified as BCP; however, some people list it as BCP and when they submit it, it gets CHANGED to other science.

It's really a toss-up and depends on who is overlooking your transcripts. I don't think it really matters. You could make a fight for it being BCP, but in the end, it might or might not change.

I listed my Brain/Speech cognitive class as BCP; however, it got changed to other science since it had the PREFIX SLP: Brain/Speech Cognition.

I guess its tricky since some schools would list that as BIO, and some not. Just like how some schools list ECO as BIO; however, some schools list it in its own catagory: I.E. Environmental Sciences.

Long story made short: I was desperate for BCP during my senior year, and I did NOT want to risk the game of lets see whether Environmental: Ecology is BCP. Therefore, I took all my classes with the prefix BIO in order to make sure as hell that it gets factored as BCP.

werd. just list them as bio, assuming it raises your BCP gpa. If the AADSAS reviewer has a problem with it, they will change it to other science for you. That's what they did for me and it wasn't a problem.

it sucks because the ecology courses that i have determine whether or not i apply to dental school for this upcoming cycle..GREAT
