First of all...
I wanted to thank everyone for responding to posts and threads! I took my DAT today and got my scores.... Did horrendous in English--I have no idea WHY. But I'll break it down to you. If you want to know how I did it.. PM me.

22 PAT (93.8)
20 QR (95.1 -- people weren't lying when they said you needed to know statistics...)
17 RC (35.7) 🙁 Can I get some opinions on this?? I feel really bad about this score...
22 BIO (97.6)
29 GC (99.9)
28 OC (99.5) => WHAT!? HOW!!
25 TS (99.9)
23 AA (99.7)

Okay, I don't know WHAT happened during the exam because Topscore was NOTHING like the real exam. What are your opinions about my grades and my READING COMPREHENSION? Do you think it's going to hurt a lot?? I hope my sciences cushion it a little bit 😕

First off, those are amazing scores. Obviously the only problem is the RC which actually isnt a problem at all. If you had gotten a 15 I would have said to most likely retake it. But 17 your perfect fine I think.

Congrats on those scores dude.

Everyone, including me, is going to want to know what materials you used to study for each section, and what stood out in each section (like a lot of statistics in the QR). Looking forward to hearing more details. Congrats on being top 1%!

Congrats on those scores dude.

Thanks! I hope the 17 isn't gonna kill me. 🙁
But thanks for the confidence!

Fabulous scores dude. I want to hear some of your study details too, nice thorough breakdown for us! You got the free time now, right? 😉

Much congratulations to you for being done! Those are fantastic scores!

So..... to echo everybody else, can you briefly tell us about your study tips? ESPECIALLY why Top Scorer wasn't like the real deal. My test is in a week and I'm starting to get nervous...

Please do tell us why Topscore wasn't up to par. I was thinking about getting those 3 exams to practice on in the coming week before I take my test at the end of the month.

Did you take any practice exams that closely resembled your DAT? Achiever or anything else?

Amount of time spent to study: THREE AND A HALF WEEKS. YES IT'S DOABLE. Woke up at 9 AM every day and studied until midnight--with breaks. It's really important to take breaks because that really takes your mind off things.

Materials used: AP Cliffnotes Bio, DAT Destroyer 2010, Kaplan BB, CDP PAT [Yes. That is all.]

DAT Destroyer was substantial for GC and OC.

Well... I did well in OC and I enjoy it so that's probably why I did well in it? I wouldn't say it's very difficult (had one marked).

For GC, Destroyer was very helpful. I didn't have a lot of calculations--a lot of conceptual questions. Had a couple that were marked because I wasn't sure?? But ended up ok.

For biology, Cliffnotes is crucial! I think it was the reason why I did well! However, the biology section was a bit tricky because I would've known answers to questions immediately if I were a science major. There were a lot of questions that required thinking. Mine wasn't easy--I had a wholeeeeeeeeee lot marked.

PAT: CDP PAT is all. Just drill on those. However, my PAT was much harder than CDP! Especially TFE

QR: Know some statistics! I was pretty good in math but I was stumped on some questions! You should know trignometric functions and all of SAT math. AND PROBABILITY! I haven't used Math Destroyer but I heard it does wonders.

RC: Oh god. I used Topscore and used the S&D method. I did fine; scored approximately 22s. Like people have said, there are tone and inference questions! Mine was FULL of implications/inferences. I literally could not have done S&D--that's how bad it was for me. It's not that I can't comprehend what I read--there's just too much to read under a certain period of time and answer conceptually.

I only used Topscore as means to gauge my standing. I would usually get 19s and low 20s in Chemistry and low 20s in biology. Mid 20s for OC.

However, nothing was representative of the exam--at least for me because I was nervous? But gauging yourself is crucial. In terms of the difficulty, Topscore OC was spot on. GC? Almost, a hairline away.

BIO? Nothing compared to biology. Topscore wouldn't have prepared you for that either. Topscore was very straightforward. Mine had some pretty easy ones but a lot of ones that require you to think beyond what you learned like drug inhibition and what not.

Pretty sure your TS and AA will give you a huge cushion to rest on. Your 17 won't hurt at all. Maybe if you had a 20 AA/ 20TS it might. Or if it were lower like 14-15. Don't worry, relax, enjoy, and welcome to dental school.

IMO, you have nothing to worry about. Those are monstrous scores, you should be very happy, you scored in the top 99% of the nation.

Haha you mean the top 1 percent in the nation.

So for the reading, we should expect SAT-like reading passages, as opposed to straightforward scientific factual passages?

Also, for organic chemistry, did you think Destroyer was enough? It's my weakest subject, and I'm worried there'll be names of unfamiliar reactions. eek!

Do you really think so? I feel like cutoffs can just toss me away. I'm just reallllllly worried that it'll hurt me BIG time. Though, all of you seem to say it can be overlooked due to the monstrosity of my sciences??? Can I get more thoughts/opinions?? Thank you all!

People like invictusx bother me. Go away, your scores are fine. Stop fishing for compliments.

SAT-like reading passages but with less time and more information to drain. But the time crunch was what killed me. Mine was FULL of implications--none of them were search and destroy.

And in terms of organic chemistry, I personally did not think it was bad because I enjoyed the subject? To each his own.

Let me help: OP your scores amazing. They are top 1% in the nation. Out of the hypothetical 13,000 applicants, you are 1 of the 130 that is currently applying to dental school. It's like winning the lottery, except it was all you. It was your hard work and brains that got you the grade. You are above 99% of the entire applicant database. With such scores, noone can match up to your wit and intelligence. When people open up your file, they will see brilliance and automatically recognize your stature of awesomeness.

Simply put, you'll get in. Seriously noone gets rejected with those scores unless you are an awkward duck, have a felony/academic dishonesty, apply late, have a 2.0 gpa, and or other ridicolous things which most likely you don't have.

👍

seriously OP. if you are even considering retaking it, you have serious issues. You think you can get a AA and a TS like that again?

it bothers me too. This is the only thread that I never visit again after I read it. Get out of here invictusx.

My overall GPA is near 3.6; my sGPA is around 3.4 I believe. I did horrendous in intro to biology, which is why I'm showing some signs of uneasiness but there are legitimate reasons for why my freshmen year didn't treat me well; I'll spare you the reasons. However, I've shown tremendous progression since then through drastic changes.

I truly apologize if this annoyed you. I didn't mean to boast around my grades like that. I was just wondering and gathering opinions on how the RC would look along with my GPA (because of my college bio course) etc.

Again, sorry.

Put it this way, i got a 20 AA and 21 TS but a 15 in reading, so im no where near your scores!! and i called up the schools that im interested in and they said we look at an applicant as a whole, not focusing on individual sections, and that my scores are in their competitive range of applicants. Im lucky that my top choice doesnt have cutoffs. But even if it did, you would still make it because i believe cutoffs for some schools begin at like 16-17 ish.

In other words...your fine...go enjoy your summer and the rest of the semester...you deserve it! 👍 🙂

And im applying in June, God willing! Hopefully everything goes well 🙂

^ Topscore results!

And last minute secrets? Just keep working hard and relax. Look at the mirror and tell yourself that you're gonna kill it! And relax--that's key. Don't be stressed out because it's the worse thing you can do.

Good luck!
