hi everyone,

I just wrote a little script to help myself study for RC section and I would like to share it with SDN. Hopefully it will help someone out there who is having problems with RC.

The address for the website is: http://mbac.gmu.edu/minh/sdtraining/. This is a temporary address. Feel free to use it.

How to use the website? Its very simple S&D training strategy actually.

You can choose one of the topics at the bottom of the page (i'll add more) or you can copy and paste your own passage --> Submit --> Find the bold word as fast as you can. While you are going through the passage, try to get the main idea.

By doing this, we have created an unlimited RC passages to practice your search& destroy skills.

I am an ESL so I understand how you feel about this RC section if you are not good at reading. I hope this website will help you.

If you have any suggestion on the topics or website, please email me [email protected]

This is a pretty awesome tool! The only suggestion I would make is have it only have you search for concise words that might show up on the DAT.

If you need help on your reading comprehension I would suggest looking into godfrey test prep. That is what I used the second time around and my scores jumped big. On the DAT you will be able to use search and destroy but they are very obvious. What gets you is that they will try and trick you on the wording of the answers and you have to make sure you dont pick the trap answer by rushing to fast. That is where testing experience (godfrey) helped me. Godfrey was a really hard program and I never scored higher than 18, but going from godfrey to kaplan or actual DAT reading tests was nice. It was like the passages were on an elementary level! Also on the DAT you will have a fair amount of question that search and destroy WILL NOT WORK for. You just have to read it, understand it, and then go with your GUT. Good luck on your study website though, everybody learns it different ways, but imo you are better off taking tests and practicing search and destroy there instead of just looking for random words.

Hi OU11BB,
Thank you for your suggestion on the website and RC. I really appreciate it.

If you use this website as it is (I mean finding a random word and you are done), you are not going to improve that much. It's more about SKIM the passage as fast as you can and try to understand what you just read. When you find the word, try to understand the definition of it, don't just "look for" it because everyone can do that.

So, its up to the user to find the best strategy for him/her. You can also practice Viciper RC method by hitting "submit" multiple times (maybe 10 or 15) and write down all those keywords and start your S&D.

The thing about this website is that: its simple; easy to use; portable: you can practice it anywhere if you have an Internet connection (ipad, iphone, iWhatever 🙂 ); you can use your own passage (short, long, easy, hard etc passages) and its FREE. Consider it as an alternative source to study rather than "better or worse". 🙂

Thanks jonishere5,
Ill work on it as long as I have more time. I am actually thinking about it but if I do that, it will take away the "randomness" property of this strategy. So i am still debating.
For now, if you see a word you don't like, just hit submit again. 😀

maybe its on this forum somewhere, but can someone please expain this strategy of "search and destroy" a link to the right place would be cool

does anybody simply read the passage and answer the questions (aka no s&d)?? I've done a couple cdr's and seems like there's plenty of time to just read and answer straight up without having to search for key terms.

S & D is a common term for a RC strategy. For example, what post that contain the words "sdtraining"? Obviously, the word "sdtraining" is in the first post right? That's S&D.

Then there are a few different ways that you can S&D.

You can read the questions first instead of the passage, then do S&D (Viciper method, I spell "viciper" wrong though 🙂)
You can also write down keywords for each paragraph and then S&D for each question.
etc.

I think you should do what works best for you. I am an ESL so I can't read that fast and understand everything in the passage so S&D works best for me.

I have 2010, but hydra are cnidarians, which fall under kingdom animalia; protists are their own kingdom, protista. Be careful with Destroyer bio, I believe I've seen them use Monera in it as well, which has been defunct for some time.

I just clicked on the piano passage at the bottom to try it out... Can someone please tell me if the passages are really that long on the real thing.
