Does anyone feel that they have a good idea of what med school at OU would be like (any current students?). It has been hard for me to get much info out of them. I've heard they don't really open their arms to you until you go there to interview. I just would like to know more before interviewing.

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat you are. Yeah, for some reason, they don't give out a whole lot of information. And I don't know of anyone on SDN that goes there, either.

When is your interview? I'll be there on Dec. 2.

I got my materials in just before the deadline, so I don't have an interview scheduled yet. I'm pretty sure I will get one. It just seems like a big decision to make going in blind. Please let me know how your interview goes and if it cleared up any of your concerns. How did OU notify you for the interview invite?

Snail mail.

Yeah, they're rolling admissions. And yeah, December is pretty late, but they really don't get very many applicants, so I guess they can get away with it.

Are you guys in-state or out-of-state?

I'm at OU doing premed postbac now. I'm an OK resident. I guess from the username you are at OU?

Yeah, I'm a 5th year senior Microbiology major.

I go to med school there..what questions do you have?

If it was just concerning interviews, they interview in December, January and February based on a MCAT/GPA formula. Someone in admissions told me they receive around 1,500 apps each year.

I really love it there...I know their website for applicants isn't too informative (the cool stuff is password protected), but you'll get a lot of information at the interview.

If you have any other questions, pm me- I don't lurk on these boards very much (too busy)!

I'm flying in there on Dec. 2, and my interview is on Dec. 3. I wanted to find out more about them as well. I'm an out of state resident.

I interview at OU on Dec. 2nd and I am in-state. Yes, December is late. From what I understand, these interviews during the first week of December are the first of the entire process. I have been somewhat frusterated with the lack of information. However, I did live at the Health Sciences Center for two months during the summer working in a research lab at the Dean McGee Eye Institute.

While there, I worked with a second year med student and met several others. I also had the opportunity to meet several of the faculty members. Everyone seems very nice and the facilities are great. Still, I am unclear about the "modules" system of instruction. I have also heard that the PA students take Anatomy along with the med students. I don't know how much truth there is to this--I will have to find out at the interview. See you on Dec. 2nd.

The PA students take anatomy in the summer and the med students take theirs in the fall. OU does have an anatomy remediation course in the summer, so if you fail, you take it then. Maybe that's where some of the PA, dent, and med students were in the same class. I have no idea....

Good luck at your interviews guys!

Well, I interview there tomorrow, so hopefully I'll know more about it then. 😀

How did the interview go? How do you think the school compares w/ the Texas Schools? OU is my alma mater, but I have residency in Texas, haven't recieved interview at OU (probably b/c I'm considered out-of-state.

I was pleasantly surprised by OU. They were very friendly and have several good things going for them. Hippocrates, the website for students, looks awesome and is the best use of the Internet that I've seen. The module system seems really cool, too.

The interview day was kind of disorganized, but that might also be because it was their first day of interviews. Be sure and check out Interview Feedback for more details.

The only Texas school I've been to is UTSW. I think I liked UTSW more, but I wouldn't mind OU, either. However, the tuition is higher at OU, even though I'm an Oklahoma resident!

I don't think OU is rolling. They schedule interviews strictly based on a GPA/MCAT formula. As long as you've sent in everything by the Nov 15 (?) deadline, then you are interviewed according to your scores.... i don't know if this is different for out of state.

OU does do rolling admissions. Essentially, if you interviewed on one of the 4 interview days they had this week, you are in good shape. THey hold more interviews on two days in January and I think even a few in February after they get responses from their December interviewees.

I was told today to expect a decision by late next week/Dec. 15 or so.
