Hey guys,

I have a quick question. I know some DO schools take your cummilitive composite score, the way I understand it: for exmaple:

MCAT 1: VR 7 BS 7 PS 10
MCAT 2: VR 10 BS 9 PS 6

Total: VR 10, BS 9, PS 10.

Is that how it works and which schools do that?

Thank you!

some schools superscore, others take ur highest composite. ask them, not us since we aren't on the admissions committee

you just sound cranky lol. I was wondering if anyone else had experience with it. Is the best of every section called superscore?

There may be a couple, but out of all the DO schools, I would guess less than 3 of them do that. It is definitely vast minority.

I don't think very many schools do that. If they did, you can bet quite a few people would take the MCAT 3 times and just get a 14-15 on one section each time.

Not cranky just blunt. We don't know the policies of schools tbh. I was only told that I superscored (yes that's what it's called when you take the best #s in the individual sections) a 28o instead of the 27o I got the second time around

At our school we look at your avg of the two...I see a 24 and a 25...while I am not an ideologue ont his, I have colleague who are and who would definitely put you on a low priority, but obviously, there are other factors we'll look at as well, like your GPA.

I know a 26 is about the average for DO, but since you got a 24 and a 25 before I think you might need to set your goal a little higher in order to show significant improvement. Part of the difficulty of the MCAT is its mystery and timing. Since you've already taken it twice, you shouldn't be surprised by anything and your score should show a significant improvement (3+ points). At least that's what I think the ADCOMS think.

let me clarify, those were just example numbers, my real is 22R, 10VR, 8PS, 4BS 🙁 which is a fluke, I am very good in bio and I scored 9-10 on AAMC BS

Oh, well a 26 would be a pretty good improvement though especially considering that you would jump from below average to slightly above average. I think the average score is usually around a 25.

Average MCAT for entering class of 2013 is 26.51. However, this includes some really low MCAT schools that drag down the average. If you look at this post: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=12425402&postcount=28, there are numerous schools with MCAT in the 27-28 range.

A 4 month bump.

Had a 22R first time (10 VR, 8 PS, 4BS), received a 26S on the retake (7VR, 10PS, 9BS). I have a 3.6 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA, and pretty good LOR/EC. I am hoping that a 26S and the big improvement would be a bonus in the eyes of adcom. As of now, I am trying to get my secondaries out ASAP.

Any suggestions or words of encouragement? Past week, I have been doing applications 8-9 hours a day. I just am slowly losing hope.
