Did anyone get accepted with a 16 AA or 16 TS on here? If so, please share your experience on how you are dealing with dental school right now. Or I just want to know did anyone ever fell in this category.
 
Dude, retake man. If you look at D-School requirements then require you to have a 17 or 18+
 
I'm pretty sure no dental schools would accept these scores.

Im sure its possible and Im sure it happens every cycle. But, odds are like 50 out of the 12,000 applicants.
 
Not too long ago, Howard had an AA of 17 so I'm sure many people got in with 16s then. Things are harder now, but if you are a URM hope is not 100% lost. However, odds are not in your favor and I would echo what others have said about retaking. Also, if that is the absolute highest you are
able to get after optimal studying and testing situations you might want to keep other career options open. I do not think DAT score is necessarily a good indicator of how you will be as a dentist but it is an indicator of how you will perform on the tests needed to be a dentist. I'm sure you can do it so just put forth your best effort!

No point in ignoring the elephant in the room. Everyone knows URMs average lower accepted DAT scores and (right or wrong) the numbers seem to indicate that the race/ethnicity of the OP make a difference in the answer to his question.

I know someone who got accepted to UMKC with a 17 but that person was spectacular otherwise and many of the cut offs were 17 which this person met. Definite retake.

I know of someone who is currently applying with a 16TS--got into one school and has an interview at a school whose range from what Bobby Fischer posted is a 17+. This person is a re-applicant and NOT a URM.

oh... and statistically this means............?
 
yeah I agree with dentalworks on this. someone will probably know someone who knows someone who got a 17 or 16 DAT and got into dental school. that's great and all (and kudos to them)...but it's really insignificant because that person is an outlier in the application pool. if you're applying with that kind of a score, you better have an outstanding resume that would overshadow someone with more competitive stats. even then, i feel that the odds are still wayyy against you.

He/she is wondering if there was ANYONE who got accepted with a 16 AA or a 16 TS. My answer was that yes, I know of someone who was accepted and has an interview elsewhere. I also provided some additional information I thought was warranted given what the previous posters stated. All of the information I gave is factual, and nowhere did I attempt to give advice to a possible applicant with these numbers.

Obviously this story I shard doesn't mean anything statistically, however that is not what the OP was asking. I don't assume the OP to be without reason, as you seem to, so I'm sure the OP knows the same.

You are assuming that just because I shared this experience, I think that the OP should apply with a 16 AA and/or a 16 TS and therefore treating me with a sarcastic hostility. First of all, that is not true, and not something that I even hinted at. I think if the OP has a 16 AA and/or TS that a retake is in order, however I am not one to give unsolicited advice, unlike the overzealous posters who came before me, so don't try to make me feel bad for 1)answering the actual question posed and 2) not assuming that the OP has these stats (you don't really know from the first post, do you? I can see how that assumption makes sense, however the OP might just be curious.).

It seems to me that you really like to make assumptions about people you have no way of knowing, and that, my friend, is a dangerous thing.

Furthermore, considering that the OP posted a thread on 01/24/13 (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=979458) about whether his/her 2.5 month study schedule for the DAT was a good idea, I'm pretty sure that this person either has not taken the DAT yet or is re-taking, which means that the question posed in the original post is likely to be a mere curiosity rather than asking for advice, which is why the OP did not ask for advice in the first place and all the unsolicited advice is misplaced.

Thanks for all the responses. I don't have that DAT score, but I see people get accepted with very low GPA. I was just wondering if several people are accepted with low DAT. From all these stats that I read on the ADEA. I feel that when school reports their minimum GPA and DAT they accepted, having someone with like a 16 or below makes their school viewed differently.

To everyone who sees people with low GPA or DAT get accepted; those are outlier, the expections or the lucky. If you want to be one of those people then I pray for you. As for everyone else, retake the DAT and get a competitive score, take more classes to increase your GPA. Stop shadowing, doing research, volunteering or E.C. to improve your app. If you don't have your GPA and DAT taken care of, your just hoping to hit the lottery. And some people on SDN are convinced they are. Good luck to you

Oh yes--because I responded to your sarcasm aimed at invalidating my point (which is that I have a friend who was accepted with a 16TS) in what I thought would be a tone appropriate to the tone I perceived you were throwing at me, I cannot deal with sarcastic people in my everyday life. Thanks for the astute observation, Sherlock. Of course, nothing could have been lost due to the fact that this forum deals with text and certain things such as tone must be inferred.

I maintain that there was no reason to be such a wiseass in your comment to me. You already spent an earlier post in the thread pointing out the fact that statistically the chances are very low for a person with those DAT scores:

I personally find it pretty disturbing that anyone gets in with 16 AA.
 
I think you need at least 18aa, my friend applied this cycle with 17, got rejected from every school (11schools),good luck , you never know 🙂
