I am taking the DAT this summer in June and graduated with an engineering degree. I have two options for the upcoming year

a. get a biomedical science masters degree. I'm sure the science classes will help, look good, and if im lucky a few might transfer. It can also help my GPA (3.1)

b. work, dental school is way expensive and working as an engineer for a year will allow me to save up for at least my D1 year.

what do you think, thanks

with a 3.1 GPA your time will be better spent taking classes.

Both options sound good to me . . .

Working makes you more well rounded, and I think Admissions Committees like to see real life experience.

But you do have a low GPA, and some schools won't even consider you if your stats are too low. So taking more upper level division sciences could certainly help you.

Why don't you call some schools and get their input? Or just base your decision on what you would enjoy doing more.

thanks for both of your answers..

the MBS is 35k or i could save that $$ and put it towards my dental program.. after i get my DAT score, the decision will be easier.. i'll call UIC and see if i can talk to an advisor

if i want to go to a school whose avg incoming stats are GPA:3.45, DAT:19, what DAT score do you think would make my GPA: 3.13 competative

if the GPA stats are 3.45, then most likely, it probably went up to around 3.5 this year, and with your GPA, I would try to make it a bit more competitive. although i'm not sure if spending 35K is worth it either, maybe u can work during the day and take some night CC courses

theres also has an MBS thats "only" 23k, but its 2 yrs.. i could leave the program half way.. but i dont know if that looks bad?
