So....right now I'm finishing up my master's degree in Biology (thesis-track) with a GPA of 3.75. I'm a little nervous because my DAT scores aren't so hot and I'm a Texas resident and applying to all of the Texas dental schools. Do I have a good shot of getting accepted to a Texas dental school since I'm getting my master's or should I just suck it up and apply out of state? OR should I just retake?? I really want to be confident, especially since my science scores were pretty good AND I'm getting my master's but I also want to be realistic AND get accepted. HELP! 😳

I can't speak for texas schools, but your scores aren't bad, and your masters gpa is pretty good. I was able to get into 4 schools with 20 aa and 20 ts.
My advice, apply for your texas schools early, but also apply to other schools. They might not be your first choice, but they beat no d-school at all.

i think the oc is pretty low, be responsible for urself, retake it so u dont have to explain why u have a discrepancy between gpa and dat 😛 good luck

My undergrad GPA was a 3.5, and ~3.3 for Science. I also have 3 years of molecular genetics research experience and dental shadowing experience (and general work experience). Hopefully that'll count for something!! 🙂

Posting DAT results from a month ago (typo?), in the non-DAT forum, AND, as a MD/PhD student; I like your style!😉

I think you need to look at the averages for DAT/GPAs that your Texas schools accepted recently for their incoming dental classes, that will give you a decent idea about where you stand. Not a bad DAT though, I wouldn't launch into retake mode until doing what I just suggested.

If you have the time and money to spare however, a retake would probably only be of benefit (assuming you actually put in the study time/effort needed to get better scores), and you still have time for it before applications begin.

Speaking broadly, I think you have good stats... Good enough to get interviews if you apply to a good number of schools.

19 DAT = accepted average, check.
3.5 gpa = accepted average, check.
Whoa, 3.75 masters ... cha'-check.

Do like everyone said and compair what you have with the accepted averages of the school you're interested in. Even better - might as well call the schools and ask for advice. The good thing about your application is that the weakness is mainly in the lower DAT; ochem and QR. This can be fixed pretty easily with a few months study.

you're fine...i got in to 3 schools with an 18 TS and 18 AA with approximately average overall gpa and science gpa. with your dat and gpa's i think you'll be fine..especially as an in-state applicant. good luck!

AND yes dantemac I was super upset with my QR scores, that section was a B*$&! Just not enough time..... 👎

Thanks, I did have a fab V-day, studied orgo for the DAT at Barnes and Noble and listened to the cafe girls bitch about various V-day related troubles. 😉
