When do I have to release the DO acceptance? I'm waiting to ensure I can begin a combined degree program at the MD school since I won't have finished a masters before matriculating. Thanks guys. Oh, and I love DO. My state MD school is just half the price.

Probably every school is different. You should just call the school and ask directly to make sure you get accurate information.

If you don't mind me asking, what makes you prefer DO over MD?

If you have already paid the deposit I suppose you can hold on to it till matriculation. As the summer goes on many schools will require you to submit more paperwork such as immunizations. Just keep up with it and you should be fine. But try to release the other acceptance as soon as you are able. As one who sweated it out on the waitlist it sucks waiting for people to make a decision.

As I'm sure you're aware, MD and DO admissions are completely separate. Therefore holding one acceptance does not preclude you from holding the other. If it was my decision to make, I would release my seat at the DO school and stick with the MD. There's no telling when this GME merger will happen, if it happens at all. The more it drags out the more it appears to be political than common sense. Keep all doors open and pay less... sounds like a win-win to me.

OP, I'm not entirely sure of your situation.... does your state school say on the website or somewhere you have to complete the graduate degree so you would need to get this approval for there being special circumstances for you to pursue the dual degree so that your acceptance doesn't get rescinded? Otherwise, you would have to defer or go with the DO acceptance?

If that's the gist of things, I would wait until I got solid word from the MD school.

Also, if you don't mind me asking... Arkansas?
