What's up MCAT aces,

I need an assessment. I'm a low gpa applicant so this thing is pivotal for me. I'm no genius--did well in sciences classes by showing up for work.

After months of scattered and sporadic content review I am now a month shy of taking the exam. My score for AMCA's test #3 was 28 today and my Kaplan practice exams were 28 and 30. Timing wasn't too much of a problem. My scores are balanced across the sections with verbal reasoning being the highest with an avg of 10.

My plan is to simply, take tests, study why I get questions wrong and work on weakness material in btwn taking tests. I'll keep A notebook to prevent myself from repeating mistakes.

Any suggestions for an average dude trying to get above the 33 mark or so.

Much appreciated.

I'm in the exact same boat (May 28th) but I've only taken 1 Kaplan test - the one in the back of the premier book (scored a 28)... AAMC #3 and #4 by the end of this week - I'm doing the exact same thing you're doing... passages on stuff that I was weak on and some extra content review. I'm confident in a 33+, since most of my effort has yet to be put in (1 month of nothing else to do).

There, happy?

However, my GPA is 3.8/3.9BCPM... but it's pretty competitive in Florida!
I'm not sure you can count that as exactly the same boat. There's really no reason to include your GPA in this case, it's kind of odd actually that you decided to throw that in there and devote another paragraph about your excellent GPA to someone who's stressed out about having a low GPA and relying on their MCAT to give them a well needed boost. I'm sure you didn't intend any harm but seriously...

To the OP: Seeing your scores, at least it's good that you're doing good in verbal because that's the one section that is hard to improve over a months time. I think one month is plenty of time to keep tackling practice tests to improve your score. I would recommend taking full lengths and focusing really closely on why you're missing what you're missing. It's seems like a common mistake to go through your wrong answers and brush them off as dumb errors. I haven't even started studying for the MCAT so my advice could very well be useless, but I've definitely devoured this forum for information and I think people will tell you to keep taking practice tests and understanding why you're missing what you are. Also, it's probably a good idea to try to take almost all of the AAMC practice tests within this last month. You're coming around the last corner of the race now, it's time to give it your all.

Good luck to both of you, my MCAT studying starts in about ~2 weeks.

I'm just saying that I'm not necessarily relying on the MCAT to "pull" my GPA up so my motivation isn't the same as his... you guys get a life!

No worries bro. i actually was encouraged by you confidence in improvement. I've been sitting in the bleachers so long for this show you'd have to kick me in the nuts for me to even notice anything harsh about your attitude.

Keep this up. Probably the fastest way to improve. Keep a rhythm. GL.

I agree with above info, but if something happens where you're not seeing score improvements you're happy with, I would go ahead and reschedule the test for a month or two out. Make sure you do this within the MCAT deadline though - I think it's two weeks, or else you don't get any money back.
