The Harlem Hospital OMFS program is an accredited 4-year OMFS Program in Harlem, New York. We practice full scope OMS and offer our residents the opportunity to serve patients in an exciting, fast-paced, and highly diverse environment. Harlem Hospital is a busy Level 2 trauma center that still accepts the majority of level one traumas in the area. The service covers facial trauma of the hospital 24/7/365. The program has a history of matching its own non-categorical interns, and an overall very high match rate for residents in the last 4 years. We participate in the Match and offer 1 categorical position each year. We are looking for hard-working, self-motivated individuals to join our team this upcoming 2025-2026 year. Historically, we have a high rate of matching our interns.

Please note: Eligible candidates must have completed a 1-year residency with valid certificate or have / be eligible to obtain a valid NY state dental license prior to starting.

By the end of this internship, you should be able to:

Assist in outpatient clinics by performing dentoalveolar procedures and identifying cases for the OR

Perform preoperative evaluation of surgery patients

Provide on call coverage and ER, OR and inpatient management of oral and maxillofacial surgery patients

Assist in the operating room and watch full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures

Perform venipuncture and various vascular access

Read and analyze labs and quantitative test

Read computed tomography for the head and neck region

Perform a thorough history and physical

Improve efficiency with dentoalveolar procedures

Address complications associated with dentoalveolar procedures

Participate in Grand Rounds and discussion of preoperative and postoperative of surgical patients

Participate in all resident academic activities and didactic departmental conferences

Practice communication in a hospital and team environment

Manage and teach general practice/pediatric dental residents in the hospital setting

Volunteer and provide outreach in a culturally and socioeconomically diverse and underserved community

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat common pathology to the head and neck region

Provide emergency dental care

Evaluate research articles and participate in discussions regarding the quality of the information presented

Interns will receive the salary and benefits at the PGY 2 level, which was just recently increased for residents associated with the NYC Health + Hospital System - Public Hospital Residents Win Contract Deal, Reaching Parity With Private Peers
