1. What does "the curve" mean when referring to academics and competition?
2. Here in Newfoundland, we have a shortage of rural doctors, which is one of the main objectives of the medical school to work on. On the application for admission, it asks "Are you interested in practicing rural medicine?" Y or N. Should I say yes even if I may not want to, I mean if someone says no, that will be against you right? Then again if one says yes, they may question your interest at the interview. What do you guys think? Thanks alot.

1. A "curve" in my experience is when you take a class and you are graded on a "curve". It means that your professor assigns grades in relation to everyone else who took the exam. So an "A" on one exam may be a score of 85-100, or on another an A might be a 80-100. Basically the curve accounts for how hard the exam was and how everyone does compared to their classmates before assigning a letter grade.

2. I would call the school and ask them about this. Tell them you are "possibly" interested in rural medicine and you are wondering if you should say "yes" to the quesiton even if you are not positive. I would think different schools ask it for different reasons.

i don't think it would hurt anyone to say he/she wasn't interested in practicing rural medicine.
a LOT of people don't want to.

though i think it could be helpful to be interested.
but only put that down if it's true...
