Hello everyone,

If anyone could answer my question or have any experience with this that would be helpful. The university I attend offers many courses in the 1 semester format instead of 2. For example General Chem, Anatomy, and Physiology are all 1 semester courses. As many schools want, for instance, 8 hours of general chem and lab and I will only have 4. Should I offer an explanation or is it ok since that is what my school offers?

Thanks in advance for you responses🙂

Please excuse my name..clearly I started out with a different focus, but have done my research and know that Pharm D is best for me!

You'll have to check with the schools individually. If they have articulation tables, that'd help. For instance, USC and UCSF will show which courses are required at your school to meet their requirements. If then, the articulation table shows that the one semester course meets their requirements, then you're good to go. If not, it should list what other course would be used to fulfill the other semester's worth. Perhaps instead of GChem I/II you'd take GChem and Advanced Inorganic or some other GChem-like class. For Anatomy and Physiology, it's usually you take both courses to fulfill the two semester requirement. For me it was important which Anat/Phys class I took. My CC offered two, one was a combined Anat/Phys I/II, the other was Anatomy followed by a separate Physiology. UCSF would only take the two separate. USC would take either variation.

(regarding the change of heart, you might go to your account settings and update from Pre-Medical to Pre-Pharmacy)

Anatomy and Physiology can either be taken separately in 2 semesters or sometimes A&P in one for certain schools. First year chemistry for science majors is 2 terms. I dont think you can really get around to it, but I would call the school up to ask them if they would accept it.

For one of the schools that I am applying to they require 2 semesters: one of Anatomy and one Physiology. I took a combined course during one semester. The school said that I have to find Physiology at a different school and take it again.

I would suggest looking at the tranfer equivalency guides to make sure that what you took at your school matches up with what is expected of you at the school that you wish to apply to.
