I just thought of this today. I know that it is somewhat trivial, but it still has me a little stressed. I bought one suit, but then a lot of MSTP interviews are two days. What do people normally do? (I really don't want to go shopping again. It was hard enough for me to decide on the first one). Do some people really wear the same suit for two days? Is this considered ok?

Alot of people wear the same suit for both days. Some people do bring two suits and others just bring two shirts, two ties, and one suit. Believe me, nobody is going to notice or care.

Thanks Neuronix, I was going to buy a second suit tomorrow! You just saved me some money...remind me to buy you a drink if I interview at upenn 👍

I agree about buying only 1 suit. Besides, there is a good chance you might not fit into it after you finish the MD/PhD program. If I had to do it over again, I would of purchased a much larger pant size and get it tailored so I could adjust to my waist as I got older 🙂

LOL  👍

two suits is not a necissity, but make sure you change it up as someone else suggested. you should definitely be wearing a different shirt AND tie the following day if you wear the same suit. you would hope that the admissions people are not looking at these things, but they are. trust me, people notice.

My female brain is supposed to be calibrated to notice things like that; however, I've interiewed and hosted dozens of applicants, and I can honestly say that I've never noticed if a guy wore the same suit both days. Men's suits all look kinda the same to me. I'd probably notice if you wore the same tie, and if a girl wore the same outfit. If you wore the same shirt, I probably wouldn't notice unless it was hot pink and/or smelled bad 😉

Most people probably won't see you both days anyway, esp if the interviews are on Friday and Saturday. Also, you may not need to wear the suit both days. At our program, the second day (Saturday) is casual, and we tell the applicants to wear jeans.

wow, that's pessimistic! you know, the phD years do allow for enough time for working out (unlike, say, the surgical clerkship - argh)

i wore the same suit 2x at all my interviews, just switching shirts. if you're a girl, one option is to buy 1 jacket with the matching skirt AND pants. presto - 2 different outfits, and since the bottoms are always less expensive anyway, it's not that much of an extra investment.

I tried both carrying one suit and two suits when I interviewed last year (I bought the second suit during Christmas break). The extra suit was pretty unneccesary, but then again who knows when you're going to spill something on the first day? During those first few interviews I was paranoid that I would spill wine or some cake on my suit and then be forced to wear a smudged suit again. It never happened, so if you're short on money don't worry about it. But, for the love of hygeine, if you do wear it twice to interviews, remember to get it cleaned every so often. 🙂
