Anybody have any idea on when the new DASP ($10,000) will go into effect? I've tried to ask everyone I know, even up to the level of Regional Commanders and I can't get a straight answer. It seems the law was passed, but they haven't figured out how to fund it. I have this gut feeling that sometime after this summer when everybody renews their DASP at the current rates of $4K they will magically find the money to raise it for next year. Hopefully that gut feeling is just gas.😱

here's the word we've gotten on the Navy side of the house (we had a state of the dental corps briefing not 3 weeks ago): the new scale for the ASP has been approved by Congress and funded. the hold up resides within each branch. for us, a NAVADMIN has to be written covering administration and disbursement of the new ASP scales. i have been assured that there will be a clause in the instruction for back dating all contracts to the beginning of this fiscal year. so, even if you sign your ASP contract in June (like i will), once the NAVADMIN is written and approved by the CNO, you will be owed the additional funds without incurring any additional time to serve.

we'll see if this is what happens. an extra $6K is not worth another 6 months tacked onto the end of my time owed.

I hope the army does it the same way, but you're right with the 6 extra months not being worth the extra money.

it has been my understanding that the branches are trying to standardize things like the HPSP program, pay scales, etc. in an effort to combat recruiters playing one branch off another. in fact, there is motion being made at the top to have a combined medical command. each branch would retain their own corps at the O-6 and below levels, but the thought is that funding, facilities, capabilities, etc could be more efficiently administered with a 'purple' command.

im too low on the food chain to worry about such things...
