Just wanted to start a fun discussion about the weirdest (?) and useful things we learn from MCAT prep

1) slippery feeling you get from touching 1M NaOH is actually your skin melting
2) if ice cube floats 1/2 on earth, it'll float 1/2 on the moon

Tooth enamel is base, so that's why soda which has acid can erode it away quickly (base dissolves in acid really well). Dunno why I remember that...I just thought it was cool while doing that passage in TBR

Most of the sciences I learned in undergrad already so most interesting new things I learned from the MCAT had to be from the verbal:

4) Don't assume smoking is bad for you unless the author explicitly stated it.
5) If you attempt to potty train your kid too early, you are just wasting your time.
6) Video games increase the ability for children to think abstractly
7) "Spanking is Love and Scolding is Affection"
8) The Red Tide isn't always red
9) Stuttering is viewed by some as an anal fixation

You can easily and cheaply self-test for diabetes at home by drinking your own urine and seeing if it tastes sweet.

Also I find it funny that I know exactly from what prep materials and in what chapters people were getting all this stuff from 😛

Yah, the verbal section is kinda awesome for telling about odd crap. Like how marsupials are pretty much ******ed and under stress spontaneously abort their Joey to distract predators.

Hahah, this one cracked me up hard! I remember all of them..

To add, I learned that some women will define themselves as lesbian, not because they are lesbian, but as a feminist statement.

I learned that apparently I am incompetent at reading and comprehending what the author means.

If you are really having trouble you may want to try PR verbal accelerator..... I know I did post negative comments about it but I later realize, I am scoring 1-2 points higher on EK verbal than before the course..
If you have any questions PM me.

And trust me don't be hard on yourself my first verbal test was a 5 and I am finally up to 8.

I know exactly what test these are from, this is sad.

-I know some random facts about teeth and fluoride, and how it was discovered that fluoride is good for your teeth, Texas teeth...

-Quite a bit about the gay community oppression

-Too much info about how sexuality can be defined. Its not just as simple as being straight, bi, or gay.

- A little bit about furniture polish and sanding

- Something about how selling babies could be profitable but because of problems it creates its not worth it (problems being fares/kidnappings)

The one about selling babies was my absolute favorite. There was like one like about "oh yeah, some people also might argue that it is morally reprehensible for some reason." I was so distracted by the fact that I was actually reading a passage about that topic that I couldn't pay much attention for the questions.

3) The generally accepted "peppered-moth" evolution example is totally bogus as the data is wrong.

Leave a diamond on a table and come back in 6 billion years and it'll be graphite ( Explanation of spontaneous reactions).

That the aurora borealis is caused by the magnetic fields of the earth exciting the electrons of oxygen (green/brown) and nitrogen (blue/red) in the atmosphere, and those electrons falling from the excited to the ground state, emitting photons.

I think that was a verbal passage?

It was a PS passage. I can't believe I still remember it after so long.

That you can make a hormone by not paying her.
-from ek audio osmosis

Now that's a bold PR move.

I loved the EK101 book, that thing taught me so much random stuff. I probably would've enjoyed it if only it didn't give me 7's all the time...
