NC.

The Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) has many job options in high tech and Charlotte in business/finance. UNC and ECU are great and very affordable in-state options.
 
Texas is probably your best bet in terms of likelihood of getting into a medical school due to your residency.
 
Whatever you do do NOT move to Massachusetts as you need to live here five years as an adult to be eligible to even be considered at UMass.

agreed, TX. bunch of med schools (9 or 10?) with a lot of total spots = high chance of admission somewhere. 2 med schools in top 25. most importantly, CHEAP TUITION. i also believe NC and LA are good options with cheap tuition. do not go to WA.
 
California is a hidden gem. Check it out 😉
 
I don't think any other state compares as far as ratio of medical students/population and the low tuition of Texas. I have no idea about finding a job there or what their residency requirements are.
 
There are many consulting/finance firms that have offices in Texas (mostly Dallas and Houston), Austin has an alright Tech scene, generally engineers are fully employed and very well compensated here if they choose to work in the oil field.

Pharmaceutical or consulting industries, gain residency to get in-state tuition (and a huge admission advantage), and make some money at a non-research job. The exact state you are describing is New Jersey. If you're already a resident of New Jersey, stay there. There are something like 200 biotech and pharmaceutical companies in 6000 sq miles in northern and central New Jersey.

Is there another place on the planet with a higher concentration of pharm/biotech companies in the country? I would tend to doubt it.

Also, New Jersey has 4 medical schools, which take 75%-99% of their students from New Jersey. In-state tuition is very affordable, especially if you can rent a room from a close friend/family member for M1 and M2.
