It's not necessary to always include GPA! Many people don't.

When I was looking for a research position, my PI asked for a CV and I didn't include it on there. I was accepted into the lab.
 
Right. My thought process was that since he isn't one of my professors and has clearly seen me excel in a clinical setting and is well aware my intellectual capacity, I didn't think that my GPA would be as relevant/helpful for him in writing a letter than, let's say, a professor writing me a rec.

I wouldn't really even include a GPA on a resume for a professor haha. I don't even think resumes are particularly helpful when it comes to writing letters of recommendation.
