Why did you make a thread for this? PM goro.

AOA surgery programs that were once only available to DOs and pass acgme muster will now be open to MDs to apply to. That increases competition. Yes there will be PDs who will still give presence to DOs.

There will be AOA Surgical subspecialties in ENT, neurosurgery, and ortho that will not apply for acgme because their patient base/number, faculty number, overall resources, and ability to financially hold through with acgme standards isn't there.

It is difficult to match acgme surgery as a DO. The merger is now increasing competition, increasing quality of training but at the end of the day, there will be less spots on the AOA side (Do t forget that DOs were able to apply acgme even before this merger so anyone saying there are even more spots with acgme is blowing wind up their own butt).

I just think it's nice that I won't have to fill out two different residency applications anymore. I'd like to do IM in East TN, southeast VA or NC. Thankfully those are "undesirable areas" that regularly accept DOs and there are plenty of IM spots
