My 2c.... don’t touch your parents’ couch nor their dishes with a ten ft pole. Time is a wasting. Backpack around Europe, or hike some AT, or road trip the National Parks and sleep in your car, or whatever budget adventure looks like for you!

If you have the money to travel on your own why listen to your parents? I'd say just go for it
Nope. In Europe, Only England does, I believe.
I never thought about traveling when I was a college student because I barely made enough to pay for college tuition. Thanks to the government, the college grants helped pay 95% of the tuition. My minimum waged $5.5/hour part time job at Disneyland helped cover the remaining %5 + clothes, gas, oil changes etc. My parents helped provide the shelter.
In the summer between my 3rd and 4th years, when I knew the the school workload would be much less than the previous 3 years, I got a second part time job delivering the newspapers from 2am-6am. I continued to work 2 jobs until a week before the dental school started. I had almost $10k in my saving account, which was almost enough for 4 years of rent (I paid $250/month for sharing an apartment with 4 roommates).
I didn't feel I missed out on anything. I learned a lot from living at home with my parents. My mom taught me how to cook. My dad taught me how to fix things around the house. I didn't take my very first expensive vacation until I was 29 yo.....it was our honeymoon....a memorable 5-day trip to Hawaii.
