Writing about your experiences as a parent is the same as writing about your experiences of breathing.Thank you in advance!
For Challenge/adversity, or Diversity theme,
What is your opinion on writing about my experience as a parent?
I did not mention anything about it in my primary app (other than specifying the number of dependent).
I am sure I will have to talk about it either on Secondary or during Interview, since the experience allowed me to grow, reaffirmed my calling for medicine, and makes who I am today, obviously. There is just so much that I can expand on about the experience. You will know if you are one as well. But at the same time, I am hesitant to write about it.
What are your thoughts? Especially in the perspective of admission committee?
As a parent, you're supposed to do all the challenges that parenting brings. It's not optional.I am not sure what kind of parallel you see between parenting and breathing. Are you talking about, perhaps, how fundamental, easy, or normal they are? I am thankful for your time in answering my question, but I would really appreciate it if you could ease me from guessing what you mean by elaborating more on your opinion. Thank you!
Nah, because you don’t add diversity to the class by doing something that many of your peers will eventually do as well. I get it (I am a parent and applicant as well) but it is not applicable.Thank you for your responses.
I wholeheartedly agree with what you two have wrote. Probably that is why I have felt a bit hesitant to write about it.
But from what I have seen from med school stats and heard from people in med school, it is not a norm to be married or even to have children while in med school. My experience as a parent has not only strengthened my desire to pursue medicine or cultivated good traits in me, but also helped me understand human beings deeper and perform better at my clinical work that I have now. Wouldn't this "experience" and the "lessons" I acquired by being a parent contribute a lot to the diversity of the student body? (See that the focus is not on the mere fact of being a parent, but rather on the experience of being one) I do think this topic will NOT be a good topic for "adversity" theme, but how about "diversity" theme?
Being a parent? No. Do better.Thank you for your responses.

Maybe I could have asked my original question more specifically.
