I am trying to apply this cycle (2020).

sGPA: 3.45 (overall: 3.5; I can bring up my sgpa to 3.5 by the time I apply if I get all A's this semester.... :)........)
- I messed up really bad during the 1st 2 years so I am trying to make up for it by taking upper level classes listed on Goro's reinvention guide

Volunteer: 200 hours (non-clinical; underserved community volunteer at one organization)
- I might start another one and get additional ~50 hrs

Shadowing: 200 hours (1 dental offie)
Work experience: 1 yr of tutoring/mentoring
Research & lab experience: 1 semester (w/ poster presentation); 1 yr of working as research assistant/lab tech

DAT: N/A (I am gonna take it in March/April)

I know my gpa is not competitive enough so I am thinking of taking an upper level course over the summer
(I am planning to submit my app before I get my grade back...so I am not sure if this is worth it)

3.45 is competitive
do well on your DAT and you will be fine...

I have similar stats to you, and I got into dental school this year! Make sure to do well on the DAT.
