Hi Viraj,
What are your specific needs. If you just want an organizer, Palm OS will do. But if you want to use it for the clinics and take down long notes, I suggest you get the Pocket PC. But these are too expensive. The good ones are almost as expensive as a desktop PC. $200 can get you a PalmOS Organizer. The TungstenE is microsoft compatible & you can get upgrades but i think price starts at $300.
Dell gives you more option for pocket PC & good prices too.

I have a DELL AXIM and it works great.

Get the Casio Cassiopeia EM-500. Thing is state of the freaking art. It's kinda expensive, but limitless in the # of things it can do

I have an iPaq 2215 which I think is perfect, but in the price range you're looking at I'd get the Dell X30. In fact, if I were in the market for a new PDA and if I didn't already have the iPaq, I would get the X30. You can't beat the value on those X30s.

let's see...

i've had the koycera smart phone, a toshiba e350, dell axim and a toshiba e750..
i'm not sure if i could function without my pda.
(

personally, i wouldn't waste my time with palm.
..i think even sony is abandoning the platform.

i think in terms of price vs. performance... it's hard to beat dell's pda.
check fatwallet or similar sites and u should usually find great deals.

currently, i'm debating whether to waste money on a xda 2...or wait for the next generation hybrid pda's to be released.

🙁 it ain't easy being geeky.

Sony isn't abandoning the platform, they are abandoning the market entirely.

In my opinion, Palm PDAs are a much better purchase, but that's just my opinion.

I don't need Word, IE, or any other applications on my PDA. That's what I have a laptops and desktops for. Of course, with my Palm I can read and edit Word documents, pdf files, powerpoints, etc., just fine, but the crux of the system doesn't revolve around those tools.

i think palms are easier to learn...
..i've used both, and i happen to favor pocket pc's
for the same price you'll get more power, more memory and a better screen.

that said, i dont think u could go wrong picking either..

also, i heard u can download more pocket pc software off bearshare...
😉

anyways,
my "pda" doesnt replace my laptop.
totally different functions.
but it is a "pocket computer"

i can schedule and keep track of my patients..
..i rely on the "to do list" and memo pads.. i also keep a drug book as well as the 5 minute consult in the pda...

also..
if your pda has bluetooth and/or 802.11, it's pretty simple to check your email or play on the internet.

i just wish someone would release a halfway decent hybrid pda/cell phone that is not a brick, crappy...or requires me to purchase it in germany or japan.

🙁

Which is the best PDA software for a drug book? Thanks

has neone here have any experience with the Toshiba Audivox Thera 2032 phone/pda, if neone could shed any light on it, it would definately be helpful.

in a nutshell...it's crap.

too large..poor battery life...
a below average pda combined with a lousy phone.
a waste of money imo.

if u are with sprint go with a treo 600 or maybe a Samsung i550/500..

This Motorola MPx might be what we're looking for:

http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details/0,,48,00.html

Wi-Fi, GPRS, BT, 240x320 TFT, Windows Mobile, basically everything you need (well it would be nice if they put EDGE on it).

No it's not the prettiest thing on earth but it will get the job done:

That portrait and landscape opening thing is also pretty cool:

I'm not too keen on the Symbian and Linux PDA phones that Nokia, SE, and Motorola are coming out with soon though. That new HP 6310 might be alright, but it's just too huge.

sweet.
i'm looking forward to getting a look at the mpx (more pics ) as well as the new xda 3

I have a palm tungsten|c--it's nice because it has wi-fi built in, and a keyboard (I don't like handwriting recognition all that much) but seeing as we don't have wi-fi in the clinics and the library wireless network is a joke I find it useless in school (great at northeastern though for IMing and checking email and such.) I know a few in your class that have a certain model pocket pc with bluetooth and wi-fi, but have nothing to connect to or tether, so it's pretty much useless for them. I personally prefer palm for its ease and stability, but I'd wait until better models come out. If you want a smart phone I'd wait for the treo ace, or even get a treo 600 now (even though it's buggy and has a crappy screen) but that's just because I like palms I guess. Go to circuit city and try them out, see which one you like best, get it and if you don't like it return it. Remember that we get a discount at dell if you're gonna get an axim.

hi everybody. i recently bought a toshiba 2032 (or audiovox thera, whatever you want to call it) a few weeks ago. i knew that when i bought if that it had a phone function as well. i dont have any service on it, but i would like to get some. after loking around, i noticed that the plans offered for the pda (a data/calling plan) were kinda expensive. however, i noted that for the past year and a half on my cell phone, ive been using verizon pre-paid service...all i do is punch the number into the phone and it allocates me a certain amount of money on my "account" for certain amount of time. basically what im trying to ask is, will this prepaid service work on the toshiba 2032 as well? i noticed that when i dial a number, it gives me a message asking me for either a credit card or a calling card number. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I own a Navman PiN... it's awesome. It costs around $400, but it includes a GPS sytem built in (similar to the Garmin Ique), has all of the usual programs (Word, Excel and the like), runs on the Pocket PC platform and has a weak but suffient MP3 player to listen to tunes on. If you don't need the GPS sytem, I would suggest an IPaq, or Dell but yes, they are going to be more than what you are willing to spend. In that case, I suggest a used one. What's really cool about these Pocket PC's is that a handwriting regognition software has recently been released that virtually makes no mistakes (it's called Calligraphy 7.something).
