This is a common practice.

The general rule of thumb is the acceptance you hold should have more prestige or monetary worth than the program to whom you are sending a LOI.

I am not sure how much this applies to DO schools as there is not a generally-accepted tier system, but applying the same logic as MD schools, an acceptance to Liberty would not convince DMU to accept you. However, if you had a DMU acceptance and wanted to go to a school that is "inferior" such as Liberty in this example, the acceptance would hold weight.

Additionally, if scholarship money is attached to the acceptance you hold, that is a massive bargaining chip regardless of where the school is. But medical schools - especially DO schools - rarely hand out scholarships.
