Your dean didn't make a record of it specifically so that you wouldn't have to disclose it.

It is hard to imagine that the question about academic dishonesty is asking whether or not there is a written record. By your own admission you were "caught cheating on a midterm in my physics". Wanting to start a professional career with utter dishonesty doesn't sound like a very wise choice.

Intentionally shooting yourself in the foot also does not seem like a wise choice.

There seems to be some confusion about the "intentional shooting" "in the foot". The applicant clearly has experience in that department and did so when he/she decided to cheat on the midterm. Since he/she only got a slap on the hand and learned nothing from the experience, the author is gearing up for the second repeat experience by failing to tell the tooth and nothing but the tooth. Leave it up to an unqualified dean to give ethical/legal advice. The reality is that, should ds be so inclined, the legal evidence still exists with the old dean, assuming he/she has all the faculties intact and with the professor, who may be in the possession of the grades he/she assigned during the period in question.
Admittedly, the dental jurisprudence course has strong soporific effect. Some ds graduates appear to have either snoozed through the courses or have chosen to ignore it. Some ds couldn't care less on past academic dishonesty, but they would certainly want to be assured that such actions do not repeat themselves at their academic institution, lest they believe that falsifying/altering patient records, billing for procedures not performed is acceptable. It is hard to image any ds being proud to have one of their graduate be on the 5 o'clock news.

Okay I just talked with my school’s departmental dean, but the dean that I had a meeting with retired. So this new interim dean checked for me and told me that there is no internal record(not even expunged record nor a record stating that I had a meeting with the dean and received an oral warning) for me since my case wasn’t reported further to the student affairs department. The assistant told me I don’t have to disclose, so I guess it’s safe with not disclosing it. Thanks for the replies everyone!
What if now there’s a record of them looking to see if your case was recorded or not 👀 let the paranoia continue…

I agree we need to stop the anxiety.

To the OP, tell the truth and disclose, including the fact you received a warning but it did not result in filling an institutional action and is not part of the record at your school according to the officers there. Get some help from the student conduct officials in phrasing this properly (though i think you already got help).

Do they record these?(that I asked about my internal records?) But I think they should’ve let me know if my inquiry was to be recorded.

I specifically asked them if I should disclose and they said no.
Do you think I should check with the department again tomorrow to make sure this(them checking if my case was recorded or not) was not recorded?
I’m just messin around

I was caught cheating during the midterm in my [] class back in community college. I was reported to the department dean and had a meeting with the dean. But since it was my first time and I wasn’t aware that copying midterm question solutions from Chegg to the exam cheat sheet(we were allowed of one cheat sheet where the instructor let us write everything and anything we wanted, and I wasn’t aware that the question I found on Chegg was this class’s midterm question) was cheating, he said he would just let it pass with a verbal warning and not have it recorded. He said he would leave the rest of the penalty up to the instructor’s discretion, and as a result I received a 0 for that midterm.

Although I got a 0 on that midterm, I eventually ended up with a B as my final grade (not an F or anything like that). So it has not been recorded anywhere on my transcript, and I had no problem getting accepted and transferring to a 4-year university afterwards as well.

To be more specific, during meeting, the dean acknowledged the fact that there could’ve been some confusion about the midterm rules because the professor did not specify what to write on the cheat sheet and what not to. He also said my case didn’t necessarily seemed like a cheating because I did not know the specific questions and solutions I wrote down on my cheat sheet was that class’s midterm questions. It was uploaded on Chegg by someone else, and I thought it was just a random practice problem. I discovered those questions on Chegg the day before the midterm, and I did not know those were the midterm questions. I was just studying a bunch of similar practice questions on Chegg the day before the midterm and just randomly came across these questions, which happened to be the midterm questions.
This is why he just gave me a verbal warning (just to be cautious in the future), and did not report my case further..

Do I still need to disclose it? Is there any chance that the admissions are going to find out about this? I don’t see anything written up on my unofficial transcript, but I heard there’s this thing called “dean’s certification letter” where schools ask deans for my internal records. Even though my dean told me he would not put anything on my records, I’m not sure whether there’s going to be a record that I had a meeting with the dean regarding an academic dishonesty allegation (and that I got a 0 on that midterm as a penalty) written down on my internal record. I’m applying in this cycle, but I’m worried about this. Even though I did not receive any formal punishment about academic dishonesty, would it be written on my internal records?

Also do most dental schools require dean’s cerfication letter/internal records? I’m a CA resident so I’m specially interested in ucla, ucsf, uop, michigan, upenn, and columbia. I’m really worried about this please help

Okay I think you’re overthinking a bit much. First off, dental schools ONLY collect dean’s certification letters from your primary institution where you got your bachelors degree from, not community colleges. Also, most dental schools would not even ask for that letter. Second, it seems like you did not cheat and you “verified” with the assistants about it (that you don’t have any reportable offenses). Third, relax!! I bet nothing’s going to happen

The above comment really got me worried yesterday, so I just called my department again to see if they now had a record of them looking to see if I had anything under my file or not(the whole phone call request) and they said no. The assistant also told me that I’m under no obligation to disclose anything about this (I specifically asked if I had to), and she told me that this whole incident(that I had a meeting and received a verbal warning) will not be discussed anywhere in any ways in the future because it’s not on my record. So I think I’m fine. To be honest, I felt sorry because it seemed like the assistant was annoyed by my multiple phone calls at this point but anyways. I think I don’t have to worry about this anymore.

I cannot believe you took it that seriously.
