Hello, I'm doing a DIY post-bacc during my gap year at a community college. I've been invited to join a research program there and will be taking upper-level classes, but those don't start until the fall.

I'm trying to bump my GPA from 3.5 to 3.6. I've already taken all my prereqs in undergrad and had a strong upward trend (my GPA was low because of dual enrollment in high school). Now, I only need a few more credits before I apply to med school this summer.

The only classes available this summer at the CC that fit my schedule are some easy ones like algebra, cultural psychology, intermediate Spanish, and history. I plan on taking a few of these because I'm getting financial aid for them. I also work full-time and can't fit anything else to my schedule. Also, these classes will finish before July, which is when I plan to submit my primary.

Will med schools think it's suspicious if I take these easy classes? My hard classes start in the fall, but med schools won't see those on my primary application.

Please help!
Those aren’t going to help. Save your time and money. You could try to update schools later with your grades, but most of them likely will have made a decision by the end of the fall semester.

Edit-you shared this some time ago:

If you obtained those GPAs in years 2-4 with the other pre-reqs and upper division science classes, you do not really need to bother doing a DIY postbacc

Thank you so much.

Why are you doing a DYI post bacc at a community college? Realistically, how many upper level science classes does a community college even offer?
