do not apply this cycleHi any advice would be helpful I am unsure what to do.
Background: I graduated in 2021 with a major in economics and a 2.5 cgpa. (I didn't care about my grades due to having a job lined up after graduation).
I decided to change careers slowly as I did not like my career path. I slowly took the science pre-reqs at my local community college over the next couple of years and due to a traumatic event and poor mental health I did not do well. I finished those science pre-reqs with a 3.0 GPA but based on multiple Fs and calculating my sGPA using AADSAS I have a 2.5 sGPA.
I decided to quit my job this year and study for the DAT this year and just received my official scores. I got a 510 AA (25) and a 520 SNS (25)!
Even with a great DAT score and good EC. My GPA is lower than 3.0 cutoff. Is there any chance even applying this cycle or do I have to do an SMP.
Also, anybody have an experience with the Mississippi college masters and how this set them up for admission to dental school.
Thanks for your help any guidance is much appreciated.
will I get auto-screened out because of my GPA even though my DAT is high? And for a SMP do you have any recommendations of which one? Thanks for the replydo not apply this cycle
do an SMP, not sure if application deadlines have passed...
I have 200 shadowing hours (100 at general dentist, 50 at ortho, 50 at pediatric). I have not contacted any admissions officers, I guess I will do that here soon (should I ask them GPA requirements generally or be specific and tell them my stats?). But I have talked to the miss college masters program director and he said they have linkages to tufts and boston u.How much dental shadowing have you done? Have you connected with admissions officers at dental schools yet?
Have you talked to UMMC's postbac program director about their postbac/linkage to their dental school program?
First, if you are from Mississippi (or nearby), you shouldn't have an issue provided you perform well.Ok thanks. I am going to reach out to dental school admission advisors to ask, but looks like I am going to do the SMP at Mississippi college.
In your experience, do you think if I did the masters and did well, would I have a good chance of getting accepted to schools besides the SMP linkage schools?
you need to get nearly a 4.0 to convince adcoms that you can take the rigor of dental schoolOk thanks. I am going to reach out to dental school admission advisors to ask, but looks like I am going to do the SMP at Mississippi college.
