16 hour rule

surprised nobody has really mentioned this. what is the deal with this new 16 hour intern rule? is it really being put into effect next year? will this essentially screw all residents (r2's, r3's) into being interns again? how can they possibly think that hospitals are going to be appropriately staffed if the interns are only working 16 hours in a row? i'm baffled as to the acgme's logic in this one - your intern year is when you learn the most from being on those long shifts.

Night float seems to be working OK in the places that have implemented it.
 
I have no problem with night float programs but I do not like that the ACGME has now mandated that every program become a night float program. Anyone who does not like the new rules should write a letter to the ACGME as we are still in the comment period.
