I just want to give people with low RC scores hope about getting into dental school. I got so discouraged when I saw my 16 RC and after reading things on this forum, I was certain that I needed to retake my DAT. Thankfully, I decided not too and it worked out very well for me (AA 21, TS 22, PAT 20). I applied to 14 schools, had 5 interviews and 2 acceptances. Dont give up guys, its possible!

I got 17 RC. but my AA and TS is only 19🙁

Also got 16 RC, with similar DAT scores - received 3 pre-dec interviews, 1 post-dec., 2 acceptances!

i felt discouraged about my low RC too but still got 6 pre-dec interviews, 1 post and 2 acceptances! 🙂

I got a 15 on the PAT, and I had 2 interviews so far (1 pre-dec, and 1 post dec). I got wait listed at one school and accepted to another. Anything is possible folks. Congrats to those who got accepted, and for those who are still waiting, keep your heads up. It's not over yet. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve your goals and dreams!

as long as other aspects of your app are strong (which they are), one section shouldn't hinder your app that much

Like people have said before, the lower stats or better yet avg stats people don't post their experiences on SDN because they usually get shot down. If the OP made a thread, along with the other people who responded, that asked if he or she should retake because of a 16 RC there is not a doubt in my mind everyone would say yes. I love threads like this!

Some schools I talked to, literally said it's cause of ur low RC. I was frustrated cause I didnt want to retake and jeopardize my relatively okay scores in other sections. Im also non-trad and still working fulltime while prep-ing. But finally retook and got the following scores:

BIO 22
GC 22
OC 18
PAT 24
QR 19
RC 22

And got into a bunch of school. So that 16 in RC really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Out of curiosity, what was your GPA?

GPA from undergrad a long time ago was around 3.0, but my post-bacc GPA was right around 4.0. Of course my cumulative never really changed that much since I'd taken a bunch of units in my undergrad.

I think it was your GPA not your reading scores. Also how many schools did you apply to first and 2nd time?

16 RC with 7 pre dec interviews and 5 post dec interviews = 1 acceptance

so far i went to 8 out of 12. hoping to stay in Texas!

on the side note: I notice many people with low RC scores have higher AA/TS scores and I think its what's holding me back.

Both first and second year about 15 schools each. Keep in mind my cum gpa never really moved much, but of course by the 3rd yr I applied i already had upward trends (ie 4.00 GPA from post bacc).
