Ok? There are more schools on that list that value a high DAT other than Upenn.
@JLT223 wasn't being harsh at all. There's a reason why the AVERAGE DAT scores of those schools are 21+. Getting accepted to any of those programs with an 18AA would be more of an outlier rather than the norm.

I have an ideology where most dental schools don't always look at numbers. thats not how we define ourselves and i've spoken to a lot of the dental admissions and they've told me that other parts on my application are strong and competitive.
Care about stats (of course) but its not like its the end of the world 🙂

I completely agree stats aren't everything. However, an applicant needs to be realistic with the programs they're applying to.
Having an 18AA and applying to Columbia seems pretty unrealistic to me.

but like schools who have lower averages, give it a try if you can afford it. it's not gonna hurt you

Thanks, I agree. I want to keep a few since stats are a bit higher, thinking of removing Columbia, UPENN, and UNC.

If you want to remove a few, I suggest LA, SF, and UW. UW takes maybe 1 or 2 OOS, CA publics are also going to be much harder for you if your stats are only a bit higher. You'd be better off applying to OOS privates or publics that are friendlier than LA, SF, UW.

Definitely not California if they pronounce UCLA and UCSF as UCal LA and UCal SF

if you get into dental school somehow, be prepared to attend the most expensive dental school aka 500k$ school (NYU, USC)

This is harsh. I have a 3.45gpa depending on how the schools look at gpa (account for + and -) on the transcripts I have between a 3.2-3.3ish. I have called 12 schools and only 2 have advised me That I'd be a long shot.

Most schools have told me every applicant is looked at on a case by case basis. I've also had multiple consultations with deans, and speak to one dean on a personal level (met him through work a while ago) and they have all said I should be competitive so long as I score 18+ on my dat.

For me I work full time since I was 16, have 2 kids, worked in the medical field for 4years, had an open heart surgery at 23 with rheumatoid arthritis. I still have managed to get back into school and keep a somewhat good gpa. I have shadowing hours, taken a dental sim course put on by my local dental school and have 8 LOR's.

Sometimes getting into school isn't about being the "brightest" student in the class (honestly most of those students have bad interpersonal skills in my experience). Sometimes the students getting in to school have shown they are able to handle a stressful load while managing multiple things at the same time (which is what you will be doing in dental school and for your career after school).

If you have a very good DAT score, props to you! I mean you must really know how to study and be smart and I seriously envy you! But so many factors still play into acceptances as well. Having high numbers all over the place doesn't really show how you interact with people, how you care for people. I'm not saying people who have high scores don't care (absolutely not! of course they do) but if DAT scores determined everything (especially 20+ AA) then guess I can't take care of people

When he said 5 schools should be taken off the list, he was referring to those schools with averages way beyond 18 AA, which is not a bad idea. So i'll have to be on his side, cause hes trying to keep things in the real world.
He didnt tell the OP whether he is suitable for dental school or not, he was merely telling him what schools are not going to take 18 AAs. Also if the OP had done some research himself, he wouldve never put those schools on.

Anyone who asks for "what schools should I choose??", "school list??!!!" are lazy and want people to do their research for them. There is a search button where you can find just about anything you want.
