1st Kaplan Diagnostic test

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
don't sweat it. you should get the results by monday. when you get them, dont freak out. the class i was in, most people got like 18 or so. anyway, you'll see a pretty large turn-over. when the real scores come back, i (or someone else) will start a thread for people to post real scores vs. practice scores for april 2005, and you can read that to gauge the kaplan practice tests 🙂

my gosh i'm just praying that i get an 18 on the diagnostic. i can work with that. the problem is i haven't taken physics yet, which i will be taking this summer as well (i start on monday). I have been doing the kaplan physics edge online course, but I find it extremely difficult to follow because it zooms through everything. I'm currently on lesson 2 (there are 8 lessons). it has helped me out a bit. I was able to answer 4 or so questions on the science section of the diagnostic (the last test you take, after PS, BS, and VR), but for the rest, i just bubbled answer 'C' all the way down. 🙁

yeah, don't worry about the diagnostic. mine was sooo low. the real deal was much, much better.

exactly how low were your diagnostic results? I got mine back yesterday, but I'm way too embarrassed to say how I did.

I got a 16 on the diagnostic, and ended up with a 27 on my two last practice tests before the real deal. I was shooting for a 30 but I will probably not get that! But don't worry to much about your diagnostic score, mine went up 11 points! Although, I did study like a mad man for about three months!

I got a 30 on the kaplan diagnostic and I plan on taking the MCAT in August. I studied about 3 hours out of the biological sciences review book that they sent, but otherwise did not review much of anything.

I kind of freaked out after I looked ahead to try to find the end of the PS section, and saw the end of the verbal section with question 71. I assumed we had 50 minutes to answer 71 questions, so I started bubbling a lot of the PS questions at random. After I realized my mistake, I calmed down and did much better on the other sections.

Donvb: I am willing to bet that you got the 30 you were shooting for. Kaplan MCAT practice tests are harder than the actual MCAT, whereas AAMC's practice tests are easier. This is an actual fact. Apparently, one of the three sections of the MCAT contains "hard" passages, whereas all three sections of Kaplan's tests contain hard passages. None of the sections on AAMC's practice tests contain hard passages.
As for me, I feel I could have taken the diagnostic a little more seriously. I didn't finish at least 6 questions at the end of each section, so I just bubbled in 'C' for them all. I ended up with a 14 🙁 However, I had not taken physics yet, which I just started today (I will be taking physics I and II this summer.) Hopefully, after studying and taking physics, and by some divine intervention, I will be able to at least double my score on the actual test. I am hoping that hard work and better concentration will make this come true.

I got 18 on my diagnostic phys:6, bio:6, Verbal:6.
It is really frustrating, I am shooting for 30. I don't know how that will ever happen...aaggggghhhhhhhhhhhh 😡

it will...those first 10 or so points are an easy jump (meaning...your jump from the teens to the twenties)

it gets harder when you have to push up from the high twenties to the thirties

once you do some basic review, your score will improve rapidly 👍

You are not alone I got a 19 on my first diagnostic Phys: 6, Bio: 6 Verbal: 7
and I am shooting for a 33 Just stick with the studying and practice practice practice. Good luck

I got a 19 on my diagnostic, if I combined all my best individual scores on the practice tests I had a 27, and I ended up getting a 30 on the MCAT.

Study hard, but I thought what helped me do well was to remember to stay calm. Don't play the mental game everyone else will be playing, just stay calm and focus on answering the questions, not comparing yourself to how everyone else is doing.

i jut took it today, i was clueless on most of it. The verbal didnt seem that bad though. On the diagnostic science portion after the practice mcat i only got through the first 2 of 4 sections and i have no confidence now. i mean 2 out of 4 sections!!!!

Is there anyone out there who didn't do well on the diagnostic, but somehow managed to pull a 30+ on the actual test? I realize my fate is not determined by how well others do, but it would definitely be a confidence booster just to know that it is probable...

Are you putting in a significant number of hours into your review already? From what I've been told, must people improve their diagnostic score by ~10 points on the real test, provided they put in the necessary hours.

To the poster who thought the VR was easy: I think most people come out of the (first) test feeling that way. If you had asked me after I finished the diagnostic, I would have said I didn't miss any verbal questions. Some of Kaplan's answers are 'surprising', and from the 2 full length practice tests they've provided, I find myself disagreeing strongly with 3-4 of their answers.

Unfortunately, physics has been taking a lot of my time so far this summer, so i haven't been able to spend nearly as much time on studying for the MCAT as I had originally wanted to.

just took it yesterday. i think i got a 2...on every section. My first encounter with MCAT styled questions. I think the hardest section was the PS b/c it was the first section I encountered. What really frustrated me was that I knew most of the bio stuff...just needed to refresh to eliminate the doubts and remember the specifics. What really bothered me during the test was that I heard people getting their calculators out. I was too busy and frustrated to even bother telling them. I also did poorly on the kaplan part. I didn't finish the PS section (last section). UGH...hoping for a miracle

We took it last week and got the results back this morning.

Score breakdown: 10P 10V 9B =29!

I had the 2nd highest mark in my class. Mind you, this wasn't really a "diagnostic" for me though, since I took the actual MCAT last year and scored a dismal 25Q. Nevertheless, I still remembered a lot of background knowledge/types of MCAT questions so that's why my score was relatively high. I'm hoping the Kaplan class and hard work will pay off this time. Good luck to everyone! 😳

I got a 20 on my first diagnostic. You shouldn't sweat it too much if you got in the mid-teens. However, you should worry if your progress isn't that great by the time you get to the 4th or 5th practice tests. Even so, I've heard of people who get dramatic improvements only by their last practice test. I only got to a high score of 31 out of all my practice exams (kaplan) but averaged around 28-29. As you can see I am not too satisfied with my average practice score but hopefully I pulled through for the real thing in April. Just keep studying and keep taking practice exams as soon as you can.

I wouldnt worry at all about what your diagnostic score was....just work really hard and you should be fine...my diagnostic was 21, first full lengthpractice was 27, than 31, 33, 32, and 32....Each time I took the test I felt it could have gone either way. Did anyone else feel like that or is that just me? i felt really comfortable going into the april mcat...when I left the test, I felt the same way about the test as I did about the practice ones, so I'm hoping it will go the way all my practice test scores did....although who knows...My advice...work hard... 🙂
