1st week of P1 and I already hate Biochem

I just finished my first week of Pharm school and almost every class seems ok. I think I could probably get As and Bs on 7 of my courses. But i'm extremely worry about Biochem. I'm pretty good with chemistry but there's something about Biochem that I really hate. I'm just hoping to earn a C and get it over with.

On the other hand, I think I will like the science part of pharmacy curriculum
I don't the social sciences such as communication class, writing reflective journals, or the lecture about history to pharmacy, roles for pharmacist, laws, writing assignments etc... It's not hard but it's boring and overwhelming. To me, biochem/pharmaceutics may be harder but it's much more fun. I think... I may change my mind later..

do you really need biochem for other classes you take in pharmacy school? I know that you need it for the program, but I heard that usually when needed they usually do a review of certain organic or biochem topics that would be used the a class

It depends on the individual. If you find biochem hard, having a class on it before "reviewing" concepts you should already know in other classes will allow you to more readily focus on the new information without having to relearn info you had in undergrad.

Wait 'till you get Med Chem.....

Our med-chem was terrible, it was a guy with 2 PhDs and a post-doc who lectured about his research super in-depth. I got very little practical information from that course.

MedChem is only as good as your professor.

eh biochem...took it as an undergrad, so this class should just be review. Assuming you passed undergrad biochem (which you probably did if you're in pharm school), this should be a breeze.

They pulled faculty from the medical school to teach biochem to us...actually, now that I think about it, a good 3/4 of my professors this semester are medical school faculty members. I don't know whether that's 👍 or 👎

Beats those random standalone upstarts and their random faculty members I guess!
