I was just wondering are there any must have books for the first year?

Human anatomy (head&neck, gross, neuro,) Dental anatomy, Biochem, Dental Microbio, Pathology (general, oral) to name a few!

Depends on the school, and especially on the professor. Some classes you can get by with just the notes, while others require the textbook. Just remember that the so-called "required" text in the syllabus is often *far* from necessary. 2nd-year students can tell you what books are truly required...and you can pocket the loan money saved.

That's the truth...

Unless you go to a school where all of your books are included in fees and on a DVD. It's nice to never have to lug around more than my laptop so far, but it is a little pricey for what you get...I like it.

I rarely carry a book to school and I buy 20 to 40% of the “required” text books. For each book I buy, I always buy the older edition. For my microbiology text, I would have paid 125 for newest edition but forth was 25.
I think it depends on the professor’s lecturing and the information that he/she expects you to know and what they are willing to give during lecture and on power point.

One book I uses constantly was the Nutter (Human anatomy text). I basically used it to replace dissection lab.

I would suggest to hold off buying the book right away until you get in class and get a sense of the professors sources for examination material. Most of the time is right out of the power-point presentations or mentioned in class.
