It won't help. How much it hurts may be up for debate. I'd suspect that many schools will still find you "admissible" and send your application for review. At that point, it is everything else in the application that will get you an interview or not. Schools may vary in whether the IAs are fodder for interview questions or not.

Your mentor seems to have exaggerated. Alcoholism is a medical condition that requires a physical dependence on alcohol along with additional destructive effects. No administrator is going to suspect something like that off two recorded uses (unless you are applying to the University of Utah and your interviewer is a devout Mormon). Actually, this is such a common IA that I honestly doubt if this even has any negative effect on your application. It would be worse however if you got caught with a controlled or illicit substance.

Thank you both, I thought her remarks were a bit strong. I didn't know how to respond to the alcoholism thing it seemed absurd but I had no idea if admissions were gonna take that view point. I will continue on as planned. I've put these events behind me and grown up so I'm glad to have the chance to get in on my merit. Also, no utah schools for me fortunately.

While you might not be labeled an alcoholic for the reasons given above, what is called into question is your judgment and your ability to learn from mistakes and correct behavior that is deemed unacceptable by your institution -- or at least to avoid being caught doing it. 😉

It's not the first time I've run into the consequences for my actions during my underclassmen years. I expect it to negatively effect me I was just wanting to get a second opinion on severity. On the plus side, the second one caused me to get my act together in school. It was a real motivating factor to make my gpa go from 2.8-> 3.6 now

This is what went through my mind when I read the OP. It's not an issue about alcohol abuse, but of apparently not learning from one's mistakes.

Sometimes one has to apply with the app one has, warts and all.
