I took my first DAT in the summer and wasn't really satisfied with my score. When I recently retook the exam, I scored 19 in chemistry, which is a point lower than my previous chemistry score (20). I was wondering, if they will consider my previous score when reviewing my application. I think it makes sense to count the highest grade because I have scored 20 before just like every other person who took the same exam and didn't retake.

I think (and hope) they consider your newest scores. As long as you improved overall, I don't think it matters.

In your case you went down 1 pt to a 19, around the average accepted DAT score in 1 section. I think scores like 16 are what can be problematic. You should be fine as long as you got 19+ AA, TS, and PAT (this is very generalized but seems to be the DAT trend)

Schools are different when it comes to what they will consider. Some will consider only the highest overall score, some will consider only the most recent, and some will look at both and compare the trends. In rare cases, and I personally only know of one (Pitt) they will take the highest scores from each test and consider those.. GL
