With all due respect, what's the deal with the two-day interview??? Only one of the 12 schools I applied to/got interviews at, seems to do this....

On the plus side, it's an extra day to learn more about the program, which does seem good, since I would be spending 4 years of my life there. 🙂

OTOH, scheduling all these interviews is already complicated, time-consuming, and expensive!!! Not to mention, I hope all my future elective rotations are going to be okay with all the days off I'm taking...

Is the point to weed out anyone who isn't completely interested? What up?

Man's Greatest Hospital requires two days to fully soak in the fabulousness?

I think it probably has more to with something along the lines of MGH and McLean both want their attendings to weigh in on the applicants, but neither group will willingly travel on a regular basis to the other site. 😉

If you're talking about somewhere else, then beats me.

I got the gist that it was more that McLean refused to admit the programs had joined. 😉

I did mean MGH (wasn't sure if this was only program that does this). The reasoning that it has to do with the two different sites kind of makes sense, except that on the couple interviews I've already been on, they've just had applicants shlep between multiple hospital sites throughout one day, rather than having the faculty travel.

Perhaps your first thought, that it just takes that long to truly behold its greatness, is right on the money. 😀

the only two day interview I have is Yale. General on one day. Integrated research the next day.

I'm not even sure I want to do an integrated research track, but I don't think I'd have any idea without interviewing for it.

The two day thing bothers me a lot less than the fact that I have to do a 30 minute presentation on my research...which is on the mating habits of monkeys.

At least that gets my favorite economic indicator, the Prurient Interest Rate, up and flowing.

People (esp psychiatrists) will pay attention when you're nattering on about sex. Too bad you didn't somehow involve dreams and overbearing mothers, or you could have gone for the trifecta.

I've always been curious about the "meaning" behind your screen name. (It never occurred to me there might be some actual, LITERAL monkeys associated with it; so I wondered "who" the "monkeys" you were referring to were...)
