I am a pharmacy student applying after I graduate I have 2 F's on my transcript from undergrad. One is because i had to miss a final due to family circumstances. The other is because i didn't need Economics for pharmacy school and was unable to drop it so I took the F. Undergrad Gpa is a 3.0

Was wondering if this will be questioned or mentioned in app process/interview since these classes are so far behind me. My final 1.5 years of pharmacy school will be straight A's. I won't be able to take one of them over again because it was required for my major, which is only offered at my ugrad institution. I could retake economics, but would it be worth it? I'm also unsure of how i would even take it when i'm already in school

I definitely would not retake any of those courses. Honestly it might be something they ask you in an interview with the expectation of you being like oh yea well I struggled but look how well I did in pharmacy school etc etc. So no, you're not sunk because of these two Fs.

You're going to have a much harder to explaining "why medicine" and increasing your undergraduate GPA than explaining why you received two F's. You likely need some gap years, but that's just my $0.02.

I regularly shadow interdisciplinary teams including a doctor and pharmacist (ID, ER) while on rotations and have a compiled list of differences if ehy j prefer medicine over pharmacy so there's no issue in conveying that for me. As for my GPA, I feel other parts of my application will offset that. Plus I have far too many credits to increase my GPA by any reasonable amount.

Don't think they'll care about undergrad after you completed pharmacy school. They'll probably just ask why you want to make the switch.

Your wanting to jump from Pharmacy to Medicine will be more of an issue than your UG transcript. Your Pharm school record will be more import.

I get what you're saying, I'm just saying that you need very good reasoning to allow you to demonstrate that being a pharmacist isn't for you (before you worked a day as a pharmacist), but becoming a physician is your real calling. Best of luck to you!

I'll actually have worked a 4 months under my belt as a pharmacist by the time I'm invited for any interviews. Thanks for the advice 🙂

I think raising it is doable with time. I started college terribly, like really terrible. Within my first couple semesters I had an F, multiple D's and multiple C's. At one point my GPA was under a 2.0. It takes time to raise a gpa as long as you have time and do better in your classes than you did before I think you will be fine. I have maintained a 3.9 average over my last 60 credits and have raised my gpa back up to a respectable 3.52. As far as going from pharm to med I dont know how that will be viewed.

Though you may be just fine with the grades and working around them, have you looked into filing an appeal for a retroactive hardship withdrawal at your undergraduate institution? If they don't have a deadline for these requests, you can submit an appeal stating your claims. If they find in your favor, they will award you a "W" in place of each "F". The only drawback would be risking losing any credits that you were able to successfully obtain those semesters (in few cases, they will allow you to withdraw ONLY from the failed course) and possibly having to reimburse any financial aid received.
