Hi all,

I'm looking for input on which job to take. I have 2 full-time job opportunities at specialty-type clinics, one at a spine surgery/neurology place, and one at a pain clinic.

Spine/neuro:
  • $19.50/hr, which is doable for me, with potential to go up after 90 days
  • I would work with a couple MDs and a DO all day every day, but only 2/5 days a week are in-person scribing (on the other days I have to go in to the office to then get on a computer and scribe remotely) (although the amount of in-person scribing is set to increase soon)
  • Good vibe of company at interview - it seems like the scribes get to have some level of community together as they work in the same area
  • I don't think i want to do surgery

Pain clinic:
  • $22/hr, which is better than $19.50
  • I would be assigned to one PA or NP and only get to work with them throughout my time there, except if they're off for vacation/sick time or whatever (although the doctor of the clinic will be around..? not sure what this looks like)
  • I think i'm more interested in the type of medicine practiced in a pain clinic than the spine surgery place
  • It would all be in-person scribing
  • I interview tomorrow so i'm not sure of the vibe of the place yet, but i have to respond to the spine place by tomorrow as well so I'm looking for feedback in advance

What do you guys think would be most beneficial for my application next year? Thanks in advance!

I mean the fact that you won’t be primarily scribing for a physician at the pain clinic isn’t ideal. You can gain clinical hours AND cultivate a potential letter of recommendation while at the spine place. But naturally, if you truly are not intrigued by spines and feel that you may get bored or burned out, then go for the pain clinic.

Spine/neuro. Keep your eye on the prize here. Even if you're more "interested" in the pain clinic, the bottom line is you want the experience that is going to set you up best for your applications, and working directly with physicians is worth $2.50/hr.

Okay, thanks!
